What
is Digital Blasphemy?: Just me. My name is Ryan Bliss and I've been making pictures with
a PC since I got my first one in late 1994. Aldus Photostyler
and Kai Power Tools came bundled free with my lightning fast Compaq
486/66. That computer didn't have a modem, so I had no way of
changing the lame wallpaper that came with Windows 3.1 other than
doing it myself.
Where did you learn to make these pictures?: Everything you see
on this site was self-taught. I spent many long hours making really
bad images before I came up with anything remotely good.
When did you start making art?: When
I was a kid (back in the 70's) I was fascinated by the awesome planetary vistas in
Star Wars. In grade school, when I should have been listening
to my teacher, epic space battles were joined via my box of 64
crayons. These pictures were like stories to me; first draw a cool planet to
set the scene, and then add starfighters (X-Wings and TIE-Fighters
mostly). Once the starfighters were in place, start coloring laser
blasts and blowing up your ships with hard swirls of red and orange.
Usually my sound effects gave me away. I attempt to infuse my artwork with the same storytelling today, hopefully on a more sophisticated level.
Papers please. . .: I am 36 years years old now and until Aug 99 I lived in Iowa City, Iowa. Up until late 2004 I lived in San Diego county, but now I live in my hometown of Bloomington, Il so my kids can have the benefit of extended family.
I have two bachelor's degrees from the University of Iowa; one a BS in Computer Science, the other a BA in English. In Feb 99 I left my day job as a programmer at ACT so I could concentrate full time on the neverending goal of making Digital Blasphemy wallpapers the best on the web.
Geeky? Yes. My only redemption is my beautiful wife Jessica, who was and is the inspiration behind this site. Together we have two children: Ian (born Aug 2003) and Jason (born May 2006).
