I would like to see more of the tropical moon. Perhaps some old ruin at the water's edge. |
Ryan |
That is a great photo! If I were rendering this scene I would leave out the building in the upper right and cut back the foreground tres ;) |
Jenanne |
What do you think about this photo as the basis of a new render, Ryan? I love the colors and the trees: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/your-shot/weekly-wrapper/2012/img/0312wallpaper-week-5-5_1600.jpg |
Heather |
Hey Ryan! Hope all is well. I would love to see something tropical as well. Something beachy or maybe a tropical sunset of some sorts :-) |
JohnnyD |
Hey Ryan...How about a Thomas Kinkaid inspired scene? He wasn't the most respected artist, but his work was definitely comfort food. |
Ryan |
Not that I can recall. I've seen my work in public and I've been recognized over the phone countless times. I don't really put my face out there enough in order to be recognized in public though. Maybe if I were wearing a "Fluorescence" t-shirt... |
Greg in CA |
Do you ever get recognized by a fan (or member) when out and about? Just wondering... |
Jenanne |
You've done so many wonderful renders that it's hard to choose, but I would love to see redos on Afterglow (1999), Castlefalls (1999), and one of my all time favorites, Lone Tree (2008) - perhaps a spring version? |
wswaar |
Have you ever thought about an old weathered barn surrounded by old oaks/maples. Maybe calves in the pasture in front or an old farmer off in the distance. Just a thought. Your images never cease to impress and amaze me. They make my computers worth turning on. |

Ryan, Great Vacation Pictures! I occurred to me that there is a great basis for one or more DB images. Think: Windjammer! The classic American windjammer, a three masted schooner complete with moonrakers (the tallest of the masts which were said to "Rake The Moon", hence their name). You could do some amazing things with the ship alone, but add a stormy environment, or the ship cutting through high seas and the sea spray going everywhere. Variations could include Full Day lighting, Dawn, Sunset, Night (with or without the moon and stars). There's a possible title for you, ... "A Star to Guide Her By". It's just a suggestion, but I know you could make it work very, very well. Bruceam |

I agree that remaking Galleon would be a good idea, maybe a tropical version.. that might be cool. I definitely agree that something tropical is in order :D |
Mike |
Remake Galleon! Please please please!!!! |

Welcome back, Ryan! Everybody deserves a vacation, so don't feel guilty for taking one. Sometimes being faced with my own mortality makes me appreciate the life I have right now. So make sure you live everyday you are alive, my friend! Anyway, I consider your tropical island themes to be some of your best works! My faves include Endless Blue, Archipelago, First Light, Sunspire, Tropic of Thetis, and The Fisherman to name a few. My "Spring Fever" says it's time to "Go Tropical!" |
Christine |
Wow seems you have so many ideas here. I'm sure whatever you come up with, it will be both inspirational and creative that many of us will love. For my idea, I love how there is a pink hue in the sky when the sun sets. I would love to see that incorporated with some early evening starlight. Keep up the great work! Your wallpapers continue to inspire me week in and week out. |
Ben |
What about something inspired by the new season of Game of Thrones?! |
Chris |
I'd also vote for a shipwreck scene, maybe an old U-boat or - here's an idea - something "Titanic" related since James Cameron just dove down to the bottom of Mariana ... |
Chris |
Something to honor the release of the Hunger Games, perhaps? |
cmmnoble |
I would love to see a remake or re-imagining of The Rook (2002). I love the feel of this one -- of coming upon a lost or hidden ruin or castle element suddenly, while maybe out for a walk in the woods. The Rook has always been one of my favorites, but it never got a widescreen version. :( Incidentally, the gallery links to The Rook seem to be broken. All attempts to access "The Rook"'s page result in Sanctuary (1997). |
Carlee |
I love, love, LOVE "Tropic of Thetis" and it'd be great to see something along those lines! |
celmendo |
I vote as well for the Tolkien/Moria ideas. And for something bizarre like a living ginger root astride a giant plum in a field of golden crystallized sugar with a ginger snap shield and cape of seaweed with a chop stick lance attacking an army of gummy bears. :) |
Matt |
I think a visualization of an extreme closeup of some common compound molecules with its atomic structure featured (caffeine!) would be really cool and fit in really well with your aptitude for creating starscapes :) |
Dave the K |
How about a crystalline world, like Alan Dean Foster's world of Prism? |
Chris B |
If you want to go to the dark side, you could always make a Dante inspired work, with 9 levels of Hell you'd have a lot to choose from and there are some crazy creatures down there. I just noticed that you have never went that direction not that I would want you to on a regular basis. Probably the creepiest image IMO is All Hallows Eve followed by Dracul. Probably be better for a Halloween image. Other Abstract images might be interesting to see your take on like M.C. Escher's crazy stairs, or the one where his hands are drawing each other. or something like Dali's Melting clocks. I see you coming up with some favorites like Chamelea & The Box (which resistance would be futile if you re-did that one... or there was something similar in a horror movie too can't think of the name...) |
Michael |
Dragons... |
Tazz |
I think you should use the island country of Palau as inspiration for a possible tropical theme. |
Dave |
If I may make a suggestion, I'd love to see a scene from the perspective of someone on a mountain top looking down. The scenes you've done looking out from a high place are awesome, how about a change of perspective? |
Greg |
Wouldn't mind seeing an aerial view of one of your cities at night during a storm...something like that would be new for you (at least the perspective) and would make a really nice wallpaper i think. |
JoeB |
You did a great asteroid field a ways back. Something that doesn't have hotspots like some of the planetary scenes. I change wallpapers regularly, but I still come back to Niflheim, which is bright, but is awesome space goodness. |
Melissa |
I'd like to see something with a lot of different colors, or colors that we don't normally see you use a lot of like purples and yellows. |
Nico |
How about another spring Theme? Snap Dragons and Lupines in a mountain scene? Of course just about anything you do looks great thanks for asking! |
Jonathan A |
I agree with the idea of doing something in favor of Moria from LOTR or just large caves, mines, or massive underground halls in general. |
Kana |
I agree with the dragon idea or a shipwreck - those would be great! |
Todd |
Something that I have always wanted to request. I would love to see something Dali-esque. Have been a fan of his work for almost 30 years. If there is anyone that could pull of a computerized version of Dali it would be you. |
Theo S. |
Ryan, you're the best there is at combining landscapes water, and planets in a beautiful and unique fashion. I'd highly recommend another tropical planetscape to add to the collection. |
Hunter |
Is this the first time members have been asked for ideas?! I would love to see a remake of "Rainy Season 1999", but, er, without the rain. a grand canyon-esque valley with a rapid, rocky river through it would be great. I look at that, and i think "imagine if it was new!" |
Jamsu |
1. something mechanical (not biomech) - possibly an ornate assemblage of gears spiraling around. 2. something Wonderland themed - the recent Mad Hatter episode of Once Upon A Time showed some new ways to portray the Hatter as a dimension jumping portal master. 3. Dragon - pick an element: earth, air, water, fire, etc... The PickleJar possibilities are huge! 4. think "Reverse Bug's Life" - take the viewpoint of something bug sized looking out unto the greater large world around them. Like from under plant cover looking up at a huge wagon, Big Wheel, or shoe. |
Chuck J |
I think a shipwreck might be cool. Maybe something like a pirate ship or even more modern, since it is 100 years since the Titanic sank. An underwater scene with a wrecked vessel and its riches strewn along the ocean floor would look interesting. |
Brian |
I vote for some sci-fi in a tropical setting. |
Jan |
How about choosing any of the suggestions below (or above, currently the Tolkien ideas sound nice) and making the final render look like a drawing? I'd love to see how you'd pull that off. |
Frostwolf7 |
Would you ever consider revisiting song of the sky? I would also love to see anything from Tolkien... Especially Moria (or even better, just outside Moria in the mountains.) |
Angelique |
Since you're taking requests... I've always loved "Passage" and would love to see an updated version |
Wraith |
I'm freezing up here in the Pacific Northwest... something to hold me over til summer would help. :) |
Chris B |
You haven't done any images that had space (or futuristic) craft in them for the past 10 or so years. It would be cool to see what you could do with armada or 2 ships passing. I'd also like to see what you and your new programs can do with making a new dragon. Green, Azure, and Night of the Dragon all looked great in their time. Would be awesome especially with what you've done with fire in your recent works. And heck, why not have a Dragon on a ruined futuristic castle with a bridge next to a cave with a balrog coming out of it :-D Also looking forward to Portals with an in focus guardian/librarian :) |
Gary |
This is my first time suggesting something, but what about something along the lines of a figure in a snowstorm happening upon some ancient relic? Perhaps the relic has some sort of glow to it that would allow it to stand out in the blizzard/snowstorm? Just spitballing lol Thank you for all you do! This is my second year as a member and your recent wallpaper "Portals" is my absolute favorite out of all of them. |
Logan |
If you want to do something kinda like Moria you should check out Bonne Terre Mine. It's a former lead mine in Missouri that's filled with water now and is a scuba diving site. At the bottom is lots of old equipment trapped in an eery frozen-in-time state. It would kinda tie in the mines, water and ruins suggestions that have been offered. |
Matt |
Anything with a bridge over water and a castle! |
Mike L. |
Hey Ryan, how about somthing off the water, looking out over the Coronado Bay Bridge, I know you are familiar with it. Accutally anything you touch turns to gold so lets see what happens. |
Patrick |
I like the idea of ruins and modern day architecture as "Overdrive", but I also love spacescapes and planetscapes. So, what about ruins of future architecture with a hint of a large moon etc in the background. Mind you, it will be cool whatever you come up with. Tolkien one as well, hmm, look forward to that soon too. |

Dave T |
I love your reality-plus images: architecture, fantastic landscapes, spacescapes, etc. One thing I don't think you've ever done that I would LOVE to see would be a sunken island or temple; something in the vein of Atlantis. |
Overdrive |
Anything tropical sounds fine! But I also would like to see a remake of some old personal favs, like Trinity2k, Sheridan, Lowroad or Majesty. As for ruins: future ruins of modern day architecture sounds also interesting to me. |
jlpilkin |
Another vote for tropical. It would be cool if you made something like this: http://tinyurl.com/7wbb6hm , but without the people and perhaps with the fireworks replaced with something else. It would be even cooler if you could simulate that panorama lens. I also like the Mines of Moria idea. |
Scarr |
Architectural ruins. Temple of the Leaf was epic, and I think you've got some new skills and could really imagine a beautiful ancient ruin. Like - Mayan city centers at their peak, or at their demise. Something like that. |
Ted |
It goes along the lines of an updated Atoll that I think has potential. On the other hand, I haven't see a bad suggestion so far. |
Tim H |
I've emailed you a couple times requesting a updated version of "Frio" and a possible sand version. If you feel up to it I would love to see it, thanks ! |
The Guru |
Tropical waterfalls! |
Ryan Bliss |
The Mines of Moria sounds like a wonderful project. I am ready planning a Tolkien based wallpaper however (just finishing reading The Lord of the Rings to Ian) so I don't want to dip into that well too much. We'll see though... |
Xetal |
Glad you were able to get a break. Sounds like you needed it! If you want an architectural challenge and a tropical setting, google some pics of Tikal, Palenque, Copan or other Mayan ruins and see if they provide some inspiration (though I suspect they might have done already.) The mines of Moria is a great idea, too. |
Mike |

I'm so glad you could all take a nice family vacation and relax after all that's happened. I'm not particularly craving a new tropical wallpaper. I liked Terry's suggestion of an architectural render. The Mines of Moria sounds like an interesting prospect also. But I would like to add a completely different suggestion that I've always wanted to see you do. Could you do a feast or banquet or some other similar scene that represented an abundance of food? I'd love to see that. |
Daron |
Good suggestion Patrick. I could see a really cool, expansive scene in that styling. Maybe with some cool torch lighting. |
Patrick |
As a suggestion, how about something like the Mines of Moria? I'm glad you got a chance to take a holiday. It's been a tough year for you. |
Justin B |
I'm heading for Mexico in a couple weeks, so something tropical would definitely help get me ready to go... not that I need much help preparing for a week away from work! |
Terry |
I challenge you to do some kind of architectural render :) |
WillowMoon |
Something tropical sounds nice. You have a bunch of ones looking out onto the water, maybe something looking up at the beach (as viewed from the water)? Might be a nice change. |
Brett |
Personally I love your space scenes so my vote would have to be something like that :D (plus I have just managed to upgrade to 3 new monitors @ 1920x1200) So now looking for a good ti-screen setup :D |
