Thank you so much for your donation Robert! I got a bit swamped on 4/15 but I have listed you on my Supporters page and your Thank You card should be going out in the next week or so. |

I made a $100.00 donation on 04/15/16, how long before I hear any reply. thank you Robert ashborn,boobdude@cableone.net |

I'm one of the probably many who bought a lifetime membership quite some time ago and then never provided any more support. I've fixed that now and hopefully it will make at least a bit of a difference! Love your work and hope you get all the support you need! |

Don't do it Ryan, lifetime memberships will give you a quick cash injection now but it dries up an income feed for the future. I personally will not join an auto renewing subscription as I like to be fully in control of my finances and living in the UK I don't want to be stung for conversion rates on a monthly basis. |

its well and good to not change the terms of existing lifetime members, and reflects well on you. but i think its a mistake to continue offering those terms to new "subscribers" going forward, if its going to bite you in the ass. your mortgage, not a one-time thing. food on your table, not a one-time thing. basing your income on one-time payments for services rendered ad infinitum, no matter how trivial the incremental servicing cost, isn't sustainable. and if its not sustainable, the "lifetime membership" is a gamble anyway. a gamble on how long ryan can keep ahead of declining revenue before he has to shut down and find another line of work where he's appropriately compensated. |

Thanks Mark! I really like the glow around your name. The comments around here are going to get a lot more colorful in the future (I hope) :-) |

Always loved your work. I forget what year I became a lifetime member, but I think I got much more than my moneys worth. Looking forward to many more years of great digital art. |

I'm happy to see that the annual rate has been reduced from $50 to $40. That makes me a little more confident that the plan will succeed. Even though they're both in the "latte/month" range, $3.33/month feels like a much more friendly price. I'm also happy to see that Lifetime Memberships have been restored. I find the existence of it to be some sort of psychological comfort. |
RDC |
I'm not sure I like the monthly payments. I never had a problem renewing my membership when I received a notification. Also, I always thought it was a mistake to offer a lifetime membership option. I'm not a businessman and I could be wrong but I would think that would eventually decrease your income as renewals are where the money's at. |

I wish I could do more to help out. I bought a life time membership a couple of years ago. Just did the Doaner level to help out more, as I promised before you launched the new membership tiers. Thanks for all of your hard work, Ryan. You're an awesome artist! |
Dean |
I can see how the monthly would appeal to some, as it's a small amount, and if setup with PayPal or the like, easy to forget about. I always wondered how you would survive with all us lifetime members Ryan, so this was not entirely unexpected, and I don't mind helping out at all! |
Ryan |
Thanks for the feedback. I've decided (at least for the moment) not to restrict access to any of my content. If you are a Member you still get to access everything. The "Lifetime Plus" support level is completely optional. Thanks for the heads up about the preview pane! |
Michael |
I agree with S, and that i'd rather just fork out once to upgrade to have access to the highest res stuff than have to pay extra for each one i wanted. i bought the lifetime membership because i wanted to be able to access everything for life; if i have to pay a bit more once that's not too unreasonable but having to more frequently would be rather unnerving as a trend... as an added note, the preview pane doesn't show my comment flair (i made sure i'm logged in) and the name section isn't long enough for my username :O |

Thanks for trying to figure out a way to be fair to your lifetime members. :) I am a fan of Atosha's idea though. I think several of your lifetime members would be willing to donate once a year at some type of fundraiser :) Keep up what you are doing, you have a lot of support below. We love your work, and want you to keep going! |
Jay |
I get it. The landscape has changed significantly since you first started. It's very much an "adapt or die" scenario. I fully agree with adapting. Your work is simply amazing and I want to keep seeing it. Hopefully your new billing options will make that happen. Like others, I am a lifetime member. I just checked the renewal page and noticed there is an option to donate on the renewal page. This is a good thing. What I would like to suggest is to provide an option to simply donate (if one doesn't exist; I've not seen one on the site). You could possibly include it as an option on the billing page. That way a person can renew/extend, donate, or do both! At any rate, please keep up the good work. I really enjoy seeing the wonderful landscapes you make. PS: Have you made any resolutions for the Surface Pro 3? |
Danielle |
I am a Lifetime Member, but I only use the wallpapers that fit my screen (1440x900) and very rarely a multi-screen (although my monitors at work tend to garble them). I've been a fan for years, even before paying for access, I would pop in to see what was free. I completely understand the need for to provide us with the best of the best. |

I am very happy to read that annual billing will continue to exist. Thils will help me a lot. What worries me a bit is the following: If I understand correlty, when I let my annaul membership expire and decide later to sign on again on the new annual billing scheme, I have to pay a small start up fee, right? My problem is that my income situation is complicated and not consistent. So, in past years, I sometimes had to let expire my membership and sign on again a few months later, when I was able to do so. So, in case I had to do something like this again, i.e. had to cancel my annaul renewing plan for some time, how expensive would the "penalty" be when I sign on again some months later? |
Richard |
Hi Ryan, While I totally understand why you have to do this, I'm not too excited about this, especially if it means it will cost me extra through foreign currency transactions on my CC. I think I still have about a year and a bit of membership left anyway so it won't worry me for a while, but I would prefer to keep the option to be able to buy annual subscriptions. Would be nice if you could work through Amazon or something to allow purchases in my local currency (AUD). Anyway, I do plan on continuing my membership anyway. The value I get out of your art way exceeds the (very reasonable) cost of membership, and as it gets pointed out in a few places, if we want original art in this day and age, we have to support it. Thanks for all your work over the years too. Best regards, Richard. |
Ryan |
I agree with you! I was only talking about PNG files. |
Eric |
I am a lifetime member and would hope I would not need to pay extra to get future high resolution versions in JPG format. I guess the PNG could cost extra if you have to. But I am surprised in this day and age that there is no method to distribute without extra cost? I am not aware of any download bandwidth restrictions on my Dropbox account, for example. |
Ryan |
@John P: I will have a yearly option too so not to worry. @Chris & John: Thanks guys! I'm still working out all the details but I want to make it as painless as possible for people who can't afford a lot, but also give people who want to the opportunity to help out more. I hope to have it all ironed out by the end of the week! |
John P |
I understand your reasoning, however monthly fees would end my subscription because of the added credit card fees for transactions in foreign currency. I could not justify the additional costs, plus it means more admin for me to keep an eye on where the money is going. At least a sole fee means I can forget about it for a year or so, and one transaction fee I can just grudgingly pay! |
Chris W |
I'm a lifetime member as well, and I'd be willing to pay a bit extra as well to help keep this going. :) |
John W |
As a lifetime member, and before that was a yearly member for ... ages: I'm more than happy to throw down $$ to keep the lights on here, especially as I'm one of those folks who uses (and loves!) the higher-resolution renders. Ryan, do what you need to do to continue doing what you do! |
Ryan |
I hope not! I love my job!! |

It's easy to set up the free version, which provides unlimited bandwidth; although I don't know how much/how often free customers are throttled to accommodate the paying customers; it would be easy enough to do some testing to find out if anyone is adversely affected. I looked around in the docs, and it looks like you should have no problem caching your stand-alone images (not zip files) - https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/200172516-What-file-extensions-does-CloudFlare-cache-for-static-content-) up to 512mb - (https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/200394750-What-s-the-maximum-file-size-CloudFlare-will-cache-) Hope this helps. |

I more than understand the economical strain. Not only have I been a DB fan from the start but became a Lifetime member to make sure it continues. Being a 'techie', artist since the age of 3 and a business person, this is important for me to see DB continue amongst other sites cropping up that don't represent its quality and imaginationo. Suggestion: host a Lifetime Members 'Exclusive Party' for artwork others cannot access for your LMs to give a 'special donation towards, i.e. 'a 'Digital Fundraiser'. I'll be down for that and if other LMs are truly into your continual cause (which most are) we'll be up to coughing up at least $50-$60 per head for the showing. Make it a semi-annual affair with 7-day invite only access. It will give an injection to your revenue needs. I know as an artist the balance of 'business' versus 'work' is hard but communication (as you demonstrated) is key. You can also amplify your messages by involving some of your artwork from the past to cast the message of solidarity and support. No matter what, members like me and others, through hard times and good, will be here for you. You are not alone. Continued good fortune to you. |
Michelle |
I wrote my last post before realizing you already agreed to keep yearly. Thanks. I think that will help. Again, I am super grateful for all your hard work. |
Michelle |
There are so many services that bill monthly and I avoid as many as possible (I even do pre-paid cell phones vs. contract plans) so one of the reasons I became a member was because lifetime was an option. When you asked for money for your new setup, I helped out. Obviously, you've stated I'm grandfathered in to the new system, but even if you need to raise the price, I would hope that you would keep the lifetime memberships available. Apps for my phone that require additional payments or programs that require subscriptions I avoid at all costs. I understand you are an artist, and this is your business and I support your right to do that. I only hope that you don't lose business from those that, like me, don't like "subscriptions". Thanks for all of your work. I will be donating money again in the future, my own choice, simply because I know what it means to vote with the dollar and you are worth supporting. |
Mangoman |
Number one- Hawk- Fine, move on. You're going to jump ship on the man when he's doing his best and needs our help the most? See ya. I think you missed the key word in the price increase --- "tiny". Ryan, I'll give you money just for doing this, and blessing all of us. I give to Wikipedia.org, and a cuppla cool places such as North Shore Animal League, and the Humane Society. You know, ten or fifteen bucks may not sound like much, but they appreciate every dollar they receive. I just don't know what to do with all these address stickers! You're the best, Ryan. Never, never stop what you're doing. We love it. |
Rick Lotte |
Being able to do math, I also took the Lifetime route nearly immediately after finding your site, probably 15 years ago? Not sure. I also wondered how you'd be able to continue doing what you do with that model, time has moved on and your plans should be adjusted as necessary. I just did a lifetime renewal on my lifetime membership since it seemed right. :-) It took a while to find the option, but I did. Ryan, let me know if you need to find where it's still available! |
Hawk |
I got a lifetime account because I saw the value, and was told that I'd have access to everything now and in the future. That's what a lifetime account is supposed to be. Charging extra for larger res files because they're bigger seems like a bait-and-switch now. Perhaps it's time to move to a cheaper webhost? |
Mike |
I think everything you said makes sense. I've been using your wallpapers since the beginning and have no issues with your proposed changes, especially if they help you stay in business. |
Robbie |
Regarding large files and bandwidth... put your site behind cloudflare, it is FREE and they will cache static data which would probably dramatically reduce bandwidth usage to your server. |
I've never felt lifetime was truly supportive of Ryan. I have been annual since 2000 and am currently renewing at a rate of about twice a year, more for support than anything. I definitely don't need the extra time at the moment. My account currently expires in 2026. When I saw the note come out that life was going away and the reasons for it, I immediately renewed for another two years. I am glad to see that my preferred method of renewal is sticking around. It is a personal challenge to keep gaining time. When I started my current renewal rate, I was only a year or two from expiring. Now I’m 11 years ahead. :) Thanks Ryan! |

Hi Ryan, You got my support, I'm very willing to adapt, to keep enjoying your art. like I said in the past, You are hands down THE BEST out there. Looking forward to many more years of your Art my Friend |
hammiesmom |
Ryan, I've been a lifer for a long time now and truly enjoy your art. I understand why you must go to a different payment structure. How how earth you have made it this long just boggles my mind! Good luck and I look forward to many more years following your art! |
Oscar |
I think 5 years worth of the upgrade subscription for 4k lifetime is a fair and reasonable price because it assumes a moderate retention while offering a discount for pledging versus going month to month in the long run. Plus that is more in your pocket Ryan right off the bat. Since that is what Lifers went for in the first place, it is a good idea to grant the incentive to take an upgraded life membership for those that already had the original lifetime sub. |
Eric S. |
Also adding my vote for annual membership option. Apparently unlike other consumers in the 21st century, I had NO issue with "filling out a web form" once a year to renew. It takes all of 2 minutes or less. If a customer wants a service like this, they will take the 2 minutes and do it (in my opinion.) Anyway good luck and hope these changes help your business! |
Jenanne |
I know you haven't wanted to go to automatic renewals in the past, but I think you're doing the right thing for your business. The yearly and the new monthly memberships will be more successful now that they won't be manually renewed; inertia will work for you. An automatic monthly fee of $5 to $10 should work; it will be more trouble to cancel than to let it ride. :) |
S |
Thanks for the response Ryan. I think around the cost of 5 years of monthly "upgrade subscription". Or maybe half the price that a full lifetime subscription is currently (so $125)? Or whatever you think is fair :) |
Ryan |
That's an interesting idea. Curious curious as to what you think would be a fair rate for such an option. I am putting everything together now and I very open to suggestion. |
S |
I would like the option to upgrade lifetime membership to lifetime with 4k for a one-off fee. Any chance you will be offering that? I don't like monthly/annual billing and prefer a single large one-off charge. I imagine other lifetime customers feel the same way - which is why they originally went for lifetime subscription. |
theora |
Hi Ryan, I'm a long time life member but would be happy to pay a few dollars each month if you set it up via PayPal to auto deduct. Won't be using the 4K ones for the forseeable future but would love to contribute to keep your work ongoing, I'd really miss Digital Blasphemy if you stopped, it's my only wallpaper site. |
Eyal |
I now see that the one-year price was updated to $30. Now the world makes sense again... ;-) E. |
Eyal |
Hi Ryan, I am a life-time member for many years now, and don't regret it for a moment! Your Art is great. Nothing else will find its way to my wallpaper. I've never been the kind of person to put the kids up on display, anyway... ;-) However, one thing strikes me as odd with your pricing system: why does a three-years pledge ($80) costs more than three times one-year membership (3 x $25 = $75)? Similarly, why does the two-year ($55) costs more than two times one-year membership (2 x $25 = $50)..? Usually - longer pledges have their kicks by a somewhat reduced price... Eyal. |

Jan |
you should d be more offensive with your patreon account. i just found it by typing it manually in the search option. now i found it on your homepage, but i had to search for it. keep up the good work! |
David M |
All seems logical to me. I have absolutely no issue with extra fee for the Lossless 4K+. And have always thought your lifetime membership fee was too low. Will you have gift memberships that do not automatically renew (but gives the recipient the opportunity to continue with a subscription once their free gift is expired)? Maybe even gift lifetime (but price it substantially higher than you have at present). Maybe gift auto renewing subscriptions would work as well - not many would do so, but some might. Have a contest where people who retweet your site gets an autograph lithograph, or who share your FB page, to help spread awareness of the brand? Set up a Pinterest page with small samples of your work (I do notice some of your work already floating about there - usually unattributed. If you could put samples, with your name and website clearly at the bottom of the image, you could get on top of that before it gets out of hand). |
Ryan |
I will definitely be adding something along that lines Chris. In the meantime I have been working on my Patreon account too. The Patreon account has variable signed-print rewards for giving a small monthly amount. If you only have the stomach for one or the other (Patreon or via a program on my website) I would recommend waiting. I will get a far better rate from my own merchant banks than I will through Patreon. Patreon does have some great tools for managing it all though, which makes it easier for me to set up print rewards. |
CHSpera |
Ryan, I'm a life time member and have been a member of some kind since 2001. You need to make sure that anyone can offer up a small monthly donation, even us life time members, regardless if you charge an extra add-on for large file renders. You do such great work, and at the time I bought my lifetime membership, there wasn't a way to offer to give more. I don't have the $$ to be a true patron, but offering up $10-20 additional every month for your awesome work wouldn't be hard on me, and would offer some kind of benefit for you and your family. I hope you can offer something like that so that we can offer additional support. |
Josh J |
I'm good with it. You do great work and I've enjoyed a "lifetime" of free art for years now. Lifetime subs can't sustain you over the long term and I'd like to see you around for a bit! Good luck! |
John B |
Hey Ryan, I've been enjoying your site since the beginning and as far as I'm concerned whatever you need to keep going is fine. You'll have the whiners but for those of us that enjoy your site and look forward to your art will always have your back. |
Daniel B |
Since you mentioned updating the site, perhaps you should include a link on each image to the zazzle page for it? I assume you get a cut of what's bought that way, so making it that much easier to grab a poster may help generate revenue as well and should be fairly straight forward to set up. |
Jonathan 2 |
I was reading @Tsumaeko comment and it occurs to me that a good mobile site usually trumps most apps I have come across. For the developer there is less to maintain and have to get fixes approved for the various app stores. With iOS, Android and Windows mobile OSes and possibly more on the horizon, running on different hardware and software that are just different enough to require quirk fixes for many devices, that will add up to a lot of time and effort that could go toward a good website viewable on virtually any device. An app that uses in-app purchases gives a percentage to the store that could have gone directly to cover the site costs. That is not to say that there are not apps worth installing, but that content apps usually are a waste of time and effort for the luxery of saying "There is an app for that" |
JJP |
As someone that is both a lifetime member and will likely be making use of lossless 4K+ in the future I see no issue in paying additional for those files (or even buying an annual collection - possibly on removable media). Given that I tend to be an infrequent visitor on the site and typically get an entire collection for few different screen resolution at a time (mostly to get all the prior year's works), I'm wondering if there might be a way to dynamically bundle multiple images into a "custom collection" zip file (for the resolutions under 4k at least) - and if it would help reduce overall bandwidth usage. Granted I might be one of the oddball cases given I'm using the wallpapers as a screen saver for a PC/home projector system.... (1080p still looks good even when sitting at distances equivalent to the screen size). |
BobC |
I was also wondering how you could do this without a "day job." It must have been difficult for you to make this announcement and i am in support of your changing needs. |
Tsumaeko |
Hi Ryan, I definitely understand the need to update your business model. When I purchased my lifetime membership I was astonished at how little it cost for lifelong access to your amazing art. Please do what is right for your business and sanity. As for the site changes and apps, I can see the benefit to those, more-so the site redesign than the apps. On the one hand, I'm perfectly happy with the current site even if it is a little retro. That said, having a modern, well-crafted site is very important for enticing new customers. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do on this. *tip* |
Romarch |
Umm...I was on the wrong side of the poverty line for most of the time I've been following your gallery--meaning 15 of the last 17 years, including the year I bought my lifetime membership. Because I did, I'm not directly affected by the proposed changes; one might think I had no horse in the race. But I *have* become sensitised to matters of social stratification, even (indeed, mostly) the unintentional kind. My question: Isn't a tiered membership structure going to price some people out of your market (your fanbase), so to speak? And won't a "21st Century" Web site disadvantage people whose systems or connections would choke on the flashy bells and whistles? Perhaps an 'accessible' version of the site would be needed; those tend to work well with low-bandwidth connections; the mobile site might even work for that... I just don't like the thought that the proposed pricing plan might create a kind of second-class 'citizenship' here as far as accessing the content goes. I'd be thankful to be wrong, or to see the possibility addressed. I do see the sense in charging extra for the really huge files. Another thought, inspired by someone's mention of a thumb drive: Could you bring back the CD-ROM collections? They were a great entry-point for me; they beat the heck out of having to download your gallery one image at a time through a phone jack. I think you could sell quite a few of those to new members and to people who are changing computers. They'd get around the limited-access and bandwidth issues too. |
Eric |
Hello Ryan. Most of my comments have already been brought up. I'd add that I'm all about the pictures. I don't have much time to spend on the web site, and it's very unlikely that I'd us a smart phone app. When I am on the web page, I appreciate that you're site is very close to ad free. I second the comment about using bittorrent. I know installing software to download and un-compress an encrypted zip file might be too much to ask of all you're customers, but I wouldn't bat an eye at seeding. You also might consider selling pre-loaded thumb drives. Eric |
Jonathan 2 |
We lifetime members should always remember that we can use the tip jar when we want and are able to continue our support of this wonderful gallery of beautiful artwork. I hope that will stay, btw. |
Oscar |
Just read your notice Ryan. I think your approach and warning of the changes are the right step. As a fellow businessman, I fully understand your need to update your policies for the 2nd decade of the 21st century. I often wondered, even when I was still in college and purchased a lifetime membership, how you sustained yourself with that business model. It sounded like a good startup strategy but I knew it would go away eventually. I guess that time has come. I'm just glad I got mine while you still offered it. But I completely understand your need to charge for the enormous files you will offer soon. My point is, I agree with your approach, and I will continue to support you even if you have to bump things up now and then. I prefer you stay in business at a higher rate than not in business at all. My best wishes to you going forward. I will continue to support you and your amazing artwork that adorns my computers every day. |
Bob |
You're work has been all over my computers etc. since the day in 1998 that I became s 'lifer'. You're work is awesome & you deserve to do what you're great at while enjoying it AND being able to feed the kids! I'm behind your decision(s) 100%. Thanks for making my various computers worthy of people actually visiting me to look at them. Always superb. :) |
teddeler |
I'm one of those that dislikes automatic monthly payments (intensely) and, looking down through the comments, am glad you will have an annual billing option. I admit my support has been sporadic. As beautiful as your work is, it sometimes loses to other things in my private priorities contests. That said, I do hope you are able to make ends meet going forward. It would be a great loss if you weren't able to continue. |
Michel |
I agree with the posted comments. As a Lifetimer, I also often wondered how you survive! Like most, the Yearly must stay and I like the multi-year as well. Say, a 3 or 5 year, would suit me fine. Keep up the good work. Just love your art. |
Elarin |
I know you have been brainstorming to find something that meets your needs and those of your members and I think you have found a good starting point. I look forward to seeing how I can support you in the future =) |
shaldannon |
Count me in with supporting this decision. What do you anticipate the fee structure to be. Like at least one other lifetime member, below, I could see myself switching to a yearly subscription to help out; I just need to know what the costs would be. |
kirnkorner |
Hi Ryan. I was up in the air about what to do. I have never really liked the lifetime membership model you put in place. I understand it, but I have no idea how it's sustainable in the long run. If every one of your members switched to a lifetime, you'd have one really good year (or 2), and then no more income. That's why I continue the yearly subscription. I am happy to shell out that minimal fee every year for your quality artwork. I use them everywhere: work computer, home computer, phone, and tablet. I get tons of complements on them all the time. Anyway, thanks for keeping the yearly. I look forward to supporting you for as long as we are both able to click the mouse :) |
Ryan |
I have heard you guys loud and clear: Annual billing will be an option :-) |
xcom1602 |
I enjoy your pictures for 15 years now and I will continue to support your work with my membership. If prices go up, I don't really care. But monthly billing is a little annoying. Please keep annual billing, one way or another. |
Truck |
Oh, and if it's more expensive - I don't mind at all. I'm interested in supporting you and what you do, not haggling a price. |
Truck |
I'm very sorry to hear that you'll be ditching the yearly membership possibility. Given my current financial situation, I wouldn't be _able_ to support you this year if it weren't for the yearly option. I'm actually having to cut off anything that bills me month to month that isn't a utility. I'd love to continue to provide you the tiny bit of financial support I can do, but if you remove the yearly plan - I simply won't be able to _because_ of how my income is. I can only do yearly commitments. I'm just asking that the option still be there, despite low use. Without it, well... I'll just be happy with having supported you at one time. |

Have you considered asking some of your members to seed a torrent for the largest files rather than carrying all the band width burden your self? I'd certainly be willing to seed for it. |
David |
Ryan how many MB does your infrastructure send per month? You could consider hosting your images on S3, $0.09 cents/GB is pretty darn cheap. |
Carysta |
As a lifetime member, I support whatever makes it easier for you to be able to keep providing us with these beautiful images :) |

Your Lifetime Membership is secure. I am just not going to be signing up any more Lifetime Members (or allowing anyone else to renew for Life) going forward after I move over to the new renewal system. I may ask for a small monthly payment from Lifetime Members if you want access to some of the higher resolution lossless images that I would like to offer. |

I've been a lifetime member for quite a long time (probably more than 10 years), and for have some years wondered how you made ends meet, Ryan. I'll look at your new rates and decide what to do. If I sign up for a monthly renewal, will I then be unable to revert to my lifetime membership? |

I would be happy to offer a yearly auto-renewal option. It may be slightly more expensive than the current options though, but maybe the basic plan could be less. I'm still doing the math :-) |

I would just love to keep my yearly membership, I hate paying for month to month but that's me. Getting a bill once a year to just fine with me. I can understand getting rid lifetime membership, that is unsustainable business model that will kill anyone in the long run. Because colo fees and bandwidth still adds up each month. As for bandwidth and other related issues, I know this can add up each month, depending on what type of infrastructure you run on, If you need help let me know. They're a few great data centers in Chicago that are reasonable priced with 100% uptime for almost 8 years and counting that I use. |

As a long time subscriber, I'm happy to go along with whatever you need to do to keep the business successful. I've been paying $15/year since I was in high school. You need to charge at least $20/year just to keep up with inflation. Brainstorming: How about a collaboration with Randall Munroe of XKCD fame? Individualized referral fees or codes, especially those that benefit both the distributor and the redeemer? Guest star on a podcast (twit.tv, 5by5.tv, relay.fm)? University-wide site licensing? |

Not sure what your hosting situation is like, but you can -potentially- solve your bandwidth issues and negate that whole issue if you move to viux.com. I lease a VPS from them, and if you do a leased VPS, you get unlimited bandwidth - totally unmetered. Dedicated VPS is metered, but shared is not. The speed clocks really high, so performance is not really an issue. I just clocked the full 57mbit my cable gives me on a download from my VPS. You can investigate the specs you would need and pricing you would get here: http://www.viux.com/cloud/cloud-vps I also happen to be on good terms with their...well, owner now, I believe. He took over sometime within the last year. Owner/General Manager. It's impossible to say whether your pricing would go up or down without knowing the disk and RAM specs you need. That above page should help you estimate. Go light on the RAM. You can tune Apache pretty tightly and still serve a lot. RAM is one of the most over-provisioned things people toss at web servers. |

Hiya Ryan, The changes you are implementing seem to make sense with how the times are changing in general. Subscription memberships are now the norm (see Office 365, Adobe, Salesforce, etc) and so what you are doing is not crazy. One suggestion though. MtM memberships are great, but in many cases, yearly or multi-yearly auto-renewed memberships are also great, especially when they offer a discount. I don't know what you're thinking of charging per month, but I'd say $2-3 bucks a month is fair. If you choose $3 for example, then maybe $30 per year, or maybe $50 for 2 years. |

Thank you so much! I will be adding in as renewal option first in the next few days and then removing the other options shortly thereafter. |

I'm not sure when my current year runs out, but I love your art, and I'll sign up for the new monthly auto-pay now, in the hope that it enables you financially to continue being the best. I've donated a couple annual memberships, and helped a little with Shadowfax. It makes complete sense to help you feed & support yourself and your family. When will you start this new program? |

Personally, I hate month to month memberships but I understand a need to stay afloat. As for the 4K files - those are huge, and anyone who wants them should understand the bandwidth concerns. I see no problem with a small extra fee for those. |

No, lifetime Members will lose nothing. |

Ryan, I understand why the change. It makes good business sense, especially since this is your lively hood and you offer such a quality service and product. I just want to make sure I understand this correctly. I am a lifetime member. With this change, if I understand correctly, I will lose that distinction and have to pay a monthly fee if I want to keep access to your work. Is that correct? Regards, Tina |
