I'm happy with the way the email reminders are set up. I wouldn't like auto-renewal and wouldn't take that option if it was offered. In fact, I'm less likely to commit to anything with auto-renew. Plus, my yearly membership is like a small gift I choose to give myself; I don't want it to be like my electricity bill or phone tariff.
Also, I've felt guitly in the past about using the returning membership discount - although it's been helpful - because what I get out of DB is worth so much more. Now it's gone, no more guilt, so... bonus!

...perhaps you should consider auto-renewals, or offer the option at signup. Or perhaps at least set up a system of emailing reminders to folks whose memberships are about to expire. We are all busy people who easily forget when our renewals are due. Maybe get feedback from other members and see what they think.
