I also like the new navbar. The site had a crowded feel before--particularly since I use HUGE fonts, being that my monitor is really my TV and I am sitting six feet away from it. The new look helps all that a lot. The see-thru dropdown menus are really slick, too. |

I just saw a Google+ comment...should have moused over the 'shrooms |

I like it! It looks much cleaner and allows more horizontal space for viewing images. My one critique: Can you add a link to home (this page: http://digitalblasphemy.com/dbhome.shtml) in the nav bar? I'm having trouble getting back there once I start clicking through the site. |
||

um well I think I just found a little Glitch in your code for the site, when I posted my comment for the link to the image, it completely stretched out the site!!!! So sorry about that... hope you can fix it!!!! |
||

I like it! It scrolls with the page, it has menus, it blends with the sites feel. Kudos on a great site upgrade! |

Dropdown menus work properly now, so kudos! There's one thing you may still want to fix: * When clicking internal links, such as those in the FAQ, the targeted section title is hidden behind the new sticky menu. And a personal point: I have a 2560 pixel screen-width, and your menu is stretched way to wide now. :-) Since the rest of the site is still fixed width, it's much nicer if the menu remains fixed width too. Cheers! |

Just noticed that the old sidebar is still used on the search results page. |

This redo is much better than the last one! |

Love the roominess! |

At first, I thought the new layout looked a little sparse on my 17" laptop, but it looks much, much nicer than the old one on the 10" netbook that I actually take to work. Overall, I think it looks nice. |

like it very much. Not cluttered, very open. Well done. |

I like the season link in the upper right corner :) |

Ryan, I love the top vertical bar--much cleaner! I'm not a huge fan of the vertical bar at the bottom though. I think it'd look better without the boxes there. Also, I think the delay for showing the pop downs on the top bar is a tad too slow. On the whole, MUCH BETTER! |

You may need to refresh the page (hit CTRL-R) to reload the code for the menus. @kelzilla: Sorry you don't like the new layout but this is going to be new look going forward (until I do the massive rework). Can you tell me what is creating the strong dislike? Yes, I was having someone else do some work on a new site. They were volunteering their time however and the work is still in progress. I may still move over to that codebase sometime in the future. |

I love how open the new home page is. It think it makes it much easier to read and see your latest updates. |
||
kellzilla |
Well, thanks for leaving the old homepage in there. I really, really don't like the new layout so it looks like I'll be bookmarking that page. (Weren't you having your website redone by a professional at one point? Wasn't that supposed to happen like midway through last year? Where'd that idea go?) |
||
Des |
on the old version if you hovered your mouse over wallpaper, membership, prints, etc, you got a pop-out menu to allow you to quicker navigate to required section, that doesn't happen with the new look. |
||
Ryan |
The menu should stay put at the top of the screen when you scroll. I have it working in Firefox and Chrome but haven't figured out IE yet. I've also made a few cosmetic tweaks as well(thanks miles and mhelvens for the tips!). |

Whenever I see black backgrounds I think Geocities. As I recall 90% of the sites there were black backgrounds. Why not a mostly black background with stars or similar? Didn't you do that about a year ago? |
||
Jamie |
Wonderful improvement to the cleanliness of the site. However I might suggest that you make it a sticky so as we scroll down it remains at the top of the viewable page. Moreover, once scrolled down at all, perhaps making a semi-transparent black bar to sort of "fade out" the content behind the black bar. Just a few things to avoid having to scroll to the complete top in order to continue navigation. Other than that, I completely love it. |

Looks great now and yes I am one of the few still using IE ;-0 |

This looks much cleaner! |

Looks sharp, much easier to use. Would definitely recommend. |

Aye aye captain, well done. |

I like the new navigation better than the old one. Just three minor minor issues. Fixing them might make it look a bit better. I'm running Chrome 14. * Hovering over the mushrooms/logo icon not only changes their color, but also shifts them a pixel to the right. It might look better if the hover version were properly aligned. * The top item of each submenu has a hover version that's one pixel higher than the normal version. So the entire menu shifts down a pixel when you start hovering over it. I suggest giving the top item a dotted top-border, so every menu item stays put. * I'd give the entire menu a left and right white border. Just my personal opinion. |

Over the years ive gotten useto the old menu and am one of those people that dislike change, BUT this menu is cleaner and is easy on the eyes, the other one was cluttered with all the plug ins like facebook..etc I think this one. Am thinking out loud it would really great to have an option for members to disable features for plugins like face book and all the marketing materials? Either way I way firefox/noscript/adblocking blocking these features..but some still get thru. Love you work!! |

I like the layout a lot but for some reason, almost every page (including the home page) do not open up the drop-down menus for me. The only page I found that the menus work correctly is the page you receive by clicking on "Membership»". I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with Google Chrome. |

I really like the new layout. It seems much cleaner and that is one reason I have always enjoyed your site, very little clutter and unnecessary background graphics, just awesome content. Since you got me thinking about the site's look though, I've got two suggestions: 1.) Blow up the thumbnails on your dbhome page to something more along the lines of the newest (wip) page. With the amazing detail you put into all your work, I feel like you're selling yourself short by previewing with such a small thumbnail. And since you have the mobile version now, I don't see any reason why larger thumbs would be an issue. (or maybe I'm missing a reason?) 2.) Lock the new top bar to the page so that it's always accessible (I don't know html, but basically the equivalent of Excel's freeze panes). For me it's annoying to have to scroll to the top of the page when wanting to navigate somewhere else on the site. Those are just my personal preferences though, I understand that it's your site and you should make it the way you want it. |

As long as it gets me to your wallpapers in an efficient manner, I couldn't care less if it resembles Geocities sites. :) The artwork is the real attraction here. I definitely like the new layout, though- it doesn't distract from the wallpapers as much as the old system. |
||
Ryan |
No worries. I do see what you are saying and I am not offended in the least (well, I wasn't until you brought up Geocities anyway). The idea behind my site design has always been to keep things very simple to better showcase the graphics (like an oasis in the desert). There are indeed some elements that still need to be updated though. Regarding Vlad: I've always been a fan but I was amused to see that his production really fell off since he became a father last year. That was a major challenge for me too... |
||
anna_writr |
I like the new setup. The side bar made things better balanced. It was hard to see the facebook updates before. |
||
JK |
Here's what I think is a very cool site: http://fromme-toyou.tumblr.com/tagged/gif Also check out the awesome animated gifs while you're there. I gotta learn how they make those... |
||
JK |
On the other hand, there's Vladstudio's site. The site itself is very cool and all but I really don't go for his artwork at all. I guess what I was suggesting is Vladstudio's nice website with Digitalblasphemy's artwork :P |
||
Ryan |
Does it look better now? |
||
Ryan |
Are you using IE by any chance? |
||
Mike |
I like the nav bar on top. Only thing is everything has shifted to the left and it looks off balance. Maybe if the page layout was centered or stuff is added to teh right side of the page?? |
||

I have to defend JK a little here. I too have always found the website to be a little disappointing. I am just not fond of its layout. I’d personally like to see a little more refinement as it has always reminded me of something I would have seen on Geocities back in the day. What I am not advocating is a super obnoxious flash driven or overly artsy site, but rather something that looks a little more modern and complete. That being said, it’s perfectly usable website and I find some aspects delightful. Either way, keep up the good work and I will keep coming back no matter what you decide. That’s my 2 cents. |
||
Eirik |
JK's response is pretty harsh. I think not having Web 2.0 elements crammed down your throat is fine. Canvas? HTML5? Barf. A nice, clean aesthetic is muuuuuch preferred, and this new style is MUCH cleaner feeling than the navbar on the side. The drop-downs work very well in Firefox 7 on 64-bit Linux (which renders things different than the Windows versions, despite Mozilla's repeated attempts to get all the platforms to function the same way) and the slight pause before they go away is not a bad thing, at all. Too many websites have this split-second timing going on that makes it very difficult to keep floating menus open, if they aren't designed just-so. |
||
Ryan |
Aw, it's not that bad is it? I've never been one to want a flashy interface. |
||
JK |
My Opinion only, and no offense intended, but I think you should hire a html professional. So many sites out there that aren't even artistically related make this look like something from Geocities 1996. |
||
Edward |
I agree with you Ryan that it does open the site up more, but I also agree with Darrin that these drop down menus can "float" (or for the long version of that, the drop down menu still appears on screen even after you scroll away from the menu and will not go away unless you refresh the page). In my opinion, I prefer the old layout so the above does not become an issue. Then again for people that like the new layout, there should be a link for that as well to give us an option. |
||
Dee |
The new navigation layout is a huge improvement. It looks much tighter, less busy, and it is so much easier to find menus. Thank you! |
||
Darrin |
I like the new drop down menu. One suggestion, although I know at times they can be problematic is to have it float as you scroll down? If not done properly, those can be really annoying. |
||
Ryan |
All of the banner ads should go away when you are logged in. I am not seeing any banner ad code under the feedback box however. Are you referring to the Facebook Widget? |
||
cmmnoble |
I like the "nav bar" at the top. It's a very clean look. But I have a question. If someone is logged in to your site, is this supposed to make all of the ads go away or just the big one at the top? For me, when I logged in I still had an ad on the right side column, just under the "feedback" box. If you need to keep the ad there when members are logged in, I understand. It's just very distracting. |
||
Ryan |
I've fixed the menus so they now drop down instead of to the side. |
||
Geep |
It really makes the page look more clean and user friendly. I like it. :) |
||
Mark |
Love the idea...but when you open any expandable menus, they cover up the main portion to their right...making it difficult to "scroll" across the menus to see their insides. |
||
Tyler |
I agree that should be changed. |
||
Paul |
Ryan, I like it. It works real well! |
||
Nick |
It definitely looks better, but I wish the popup menus opened right below instead of to the side of the option. |
||
Cybinary |
Wow, first comment! I like it, makes the site flow a little better! |
