Hi Ryan! I haven't been to the site since the beginning of the year so was surprised to read about all the things going on in your life. My brother has Crohns so I'm familiar with the disease and its treatment. It sounds like you're well on your way to recovery, even with the incision infection issue. Heartfelt blessings to you and your family for a healthy 2009 and beyond. |

Ryan...I could tell from the way you talked you had Crohn's. I have it too! I'm 43 and discovered I had it at the age of 33. Had surgery in 1999. Back to back surgery as a matter of fact, bowel resection. They took out illeum, appendix, part of my large intestine. Nasty surgery..was in the hospital a week (Friday -next Friday). Went home that Friday and woke up Saturday in terrible pain. Went back to hospital had to have the NG tube shoved back down my nose while I was awake, in pain to see if I was bleeding. I wasn't so they did more CT test and I threw up the drink stuff everyhwere. They couldn't figure out what was going on so the did surgery again that Sunday! Discovered they needed to remove more large intestine (said it kept kinking up)..that time was in the hospital for 2 straight weeks. I've had my ups and downs with it, but the main thing I've had to deal with since it making sure I'm around a bathroom after eating nearly any meal as I tell people ..much of my pipes have been removed so food travels faster thru them, practically after every meal..and I go to the bathroom several times a day. Planning trips etc.. has been hard to do. Basically I just starve myself if needing to travel or be away from home a long time. Had a few fair ups and had to be on tons of pills for awhile but for now not taking anything. I knew you had it by the way you referred to your sickness. Don't be embarrassed it's more common that you know. I've found too that stress causes my to flair up. So stay calm..LOL! Hey the benefit of surgery is it's an instant built in diet, it's hard to really gain too much weight after your pipes have been removed. Hang in there and if you ever need to talk I'm available dgorenfl@bellsouth.net |

I hope you're feeling better. I have rheumatoid arthritis so I do understand about having to take medication. It's a big part of my life, but they have finally gotten me stabilized and I'm feeling pretty good. It's a good time we live in when they have medication to control a lot of these nasty things. I hope you get well and stay well. And don't forget to take your pills! |

This is a terribly tardy, but sincere, 'get well' note! We all immensely appreciate your work Ryan. You have earned every second of your rest. PLEASE take your time getting better. |

Ryan - happy to hear that you're progressing in recovery. Your site has provided me with the absolute best backgrounds - I have difficulty picking which one I want to display. My two favorites have some age on them - Creation and Overseer. Absolutely fantastic representations of the concepts. Best wishes for the speediest and most comfortable recuperation possible. |

Wishing you the most complete and best recovery possible. It's a drag when something like this occurs. I'm 64 and my knee caused me to resort to a Concept 2 indoor rower. Row 10,000m daily at a very fast pace. Hate to preach but the body needs oxygen and hard breathing builds more capillaries. Hope you find this information useful unless you're already diligently exercising. So important for one's overall well-being My best to you and your family. They need you so take all the time necessary to getting well. Aloha & looking forward to more beautiful drawings from you. Roy Szanik |

as a life-time member of your site i always feel the impact of your exceptional quality and unique creations' emotional reflection deep in my heart..not only they create eye candy of warmth and beauty but a whole new philosophical meaning for us that alters the reality of this ugly world we live in. that's why your 1 render is equal to the 100 renders of other sites.. this is the wisest choice of yours that you don't dump dozens of updates into the DB every week but you only post the best ones those are digitally and emotionally mastered renders thats why those render would nevers lose their opacity and always stay as exceptional ones of the whole gfx world. even for 1 update per year it would worth to be a member of your site. Your the best Ryan,you will get well. |

I've been a lurking fan of your work for a long long time... I finally bit the bullet & bought a 90 day membership! I'm so sorry to hear you've had so much trouble in your nether regions. Being one on a first name basis with what they called 30 years ago - Spastic Colitis now named "IBS" & treating it / dealing with it for 40-odd years now - I can on some level relate to your pain. I am blessed that mine didn't require surgical intervention {YIKES!!!} I can offer you prayers & sympathy! Here's hoping & praying that the worst IS "bee-hind" you now. I'm sorry - couldn't resist the awful pun! I'm disabled by 4 types of arthritis that led ME to nearly do myself in on good ol' OTC Ibuprofen too! Ten+ YEARS of 3600 mgs a DAY - JUST to be able to get OUT of my BED & into my recliner - ripped me a set of ulcers from the back of my throat to my upper small bowel! I HEAR your pain there my friend! Don't feel embarrassed about WHERE your ills are. At LEAST you are having it properly taken care of now. I hear you too on suffering in silence - since no one without a personal frame of reference - ever really "GETS IT"... Especially when "YOU DON'T LOOK SICK"!?!?!! So - take care - REST & recoup! I will be tuning in to SEE your new works whenever you feel up to creating them again! Thank you for your wonderful work so far! My Desktop is NEVER "BORING"!! Kindest Regards & Prayers for your speedy & FULL recovery! It's good to hear that ur home! Keep focusing on u and ur health and take ur time getting back to ur old routine. I know when I'm recovering from an illness, I'm always tempted to dive in head-first, which just slows down the healing process. Please be smarter than me and take it slow! |

Take your time and get the rest and recuperation you need. Remember - Follow your doctor's orders (and your wife's too!)- it's best to do the right thing now to prevent any complications later. And relax, I haven't felt any withdrawal jitters from the lack of a new image yet - you've got time! :-) |

I have Ulcerative Colitis which is similar to Crohns but not quite as bad. I still remember the agonizing pain that put me in the hospital for a few weeks, though. Glad to see you're through that. I also remember the "clear liquid diet" for a week, and the "low fiber diet" for the next week, which was basically left you wanting so much more. The good news is that once these things are diagnosed, medicine can be pretty effective at keeping a trouble free lifestyle. I have been good for over a year with the daily six pills I take to control the chance of flare ups. Good luck, Tom, from Ct |

Hi Ryan, So glad to read that you're home. Just the word "home" itself is very comforting, isn't it? It's a very relaxing sound. You're still in my prayers, as I know what it is to recover from surgery. Did you get a chance to hide the popsicle sticks and eat them as a substitute for perhaps a tough steak? I'm sure they would be quite chewy, but you could take small bites. They'd have a lot of fiber, wouldn't they? Well, anyway, again, we're all happy you're back home and on the mend. Take it easily, & be cool. ;-) Mmn. |
||
Darren |
As another Crohn's sufferer who has "enjoyed" several operations and undignified examinations, you have my sympathy. Sadly one gets inured to being unselfconscious about such matters; I find Infliximab (remicade) infusions afford me sufficient relief to make things manageable. dpeace |

Ryan - as a fellow owner of an incurable autoimmune disease (not Crohn's, but equally as much of a pain), I feel your pain. All I can really say is "hang in there". Once you get your daily routing going you'll have days where you don't even think about the disease. And that's about as good as thing as anyone would want! :) |

Welcome home Ryan... and quite an auspicious time too, with the (Chinese) Lunar New Year upon us, which is the reason for the strange subject line... it's Vietnamese for the greeting that most are used too, the (Cantonese) Chinese "Gung Hei Fat Choy". Jessie would know acutely what I am talking about... anyway, rest up and take care and like everyone else here who has written in, get well again soon, so you can chase your kids around again, the wallpapers are secondary. CT ps: and indeed, thanks for trusting us to share, what is very private personal information. |

So glad you're home, Ryan. That means things are getting better, which surely beats the alternative. Still waiting for my Dad to come home, but it'll be soon. Awesome, Ryan, glad to hear you're home! The hospital is a good place to heal up from the most intense parts of the ordeal, but home is where it's at when it comes to long-term healing and comfort. Take care, and I wish you a comfortable recovery. -Sean |

I just read about your health issues and I just wanted to take a minute to tell you that I will pray for you. I absolutely love your artwork. Ryan, Being a nurse I can appreciate what you are going through. I know the pain is bad but it sounds like the doctor did the right thing. The long term improvement will be evidence of that. Rest well and come back when you can. My prayers are with you as you recover and I look forward to your "comeback" render. I'm sure you have many ideas that have built up in the past few months. Best wishes. Lester Perkins |

Ryan - 5 yrs ago, my husband spent a month in the hospital for a colon re-section after a rupture(from diverticulitis). The surgery went fine, but blood clots in his legs greatly complicated things. It's very tough dealiing with the pain and having to stay in an "alien" place like a hospital rooom. Try to be strong, keep the faith, and stay positive. We need you to get well soon so we can continue to be the "cool" people at work by having your amazing images on our computer screens!!! |

I just became a member a couple weeks ago, when I read what was going on with you. My mouth dropped because I can so-o-o-o-o relate to what you're going through. I also have Crohn's disease and have for about 25 years. I had a resection years ago and recall banana popsicles were my fave during my hospital stay. Hang in there, okay? It does get better (I am living proof--no meds specifically for Crohn's disease in over 15 years! Your day will come too when the worst will be behind you. Take Care and God Bless! |

Hi. I just read your story and I wish you a quick recovery and will keep you in my thoughts. My mother has Crohn's Disease and has had it since she was in her 20's (she's now in her late 50's). Just from growing up and seeing how much it affects everything, I can sort of empathize even though I do not have it myself. I hope everything works out for you and at least you have a laptop to entertain you when nothing is on TV. :-) |

As a member of your site, I've always enjoyed reading your comments that demonstrate the work and frustration you put into a scene *ALMOST* as much as I enjoy the work that becomes of your effort a few days to months later. It's a long shot, but think of the hardships Crohn's and all the hospital stays you are enduring now as yet another obstacle overcome before your next beautiful expression. I am looking forward to hearing of your recovery, and am deeply grateful for the beauty you've brought to my desktops over these years. PS - I had to wince a little as I read your story. As a med student now, I always feel a twinge of guilt as I walk into a room and wake up a patient to interview them for the 30th time since they've come in. I hope your team now is letting you take a break. |

I just wanted to say I hope you feel better. I know you've probably heard that way to much... I also wanted to share my favorite joke with you. A grasshopper walks into a bar and the bartender says "hey- we have a drink named after you!" And the grasshopper says, "you have a drink named Steve?" This makes me laugh everytime---I don't know what that says about me... =D Feel better! ~ Christa |

Hi Ryan, I had abdominal surgery a couple of years ago; the advice to get up and walk as soon as you are able is absolutely spot on... it may hurt, but it helps get those innards moving again. Hang in there -- we're here for you all along the way! |
||
Scot |
just remember to start walking as much as you can. The best way to get your body working again and digesting stuff is to start moving. Force yourself to get up and move as much as you can. Start with short walks and eventually get up to doing laps. Pretty soon you'll have a bowl movement. It took me 9 days to get out of the hospital. Hopefully you'll do better then myself. I'm assuming you have a NG tube down your nose, which for me at least was one of the worst things to have. Once you get moving that will come out sooner. Hopefully you're getting better sleep than i did, which at least for me was what maybe a half an hour every 4 that they came in over night lol. Be well Mr. Blasphemy :) |

Wow! I just joined as a lifetime member about 5 minutes ago after many downloads from the free section and now I read this heartbreaking story of the ordeal you're going through. Having just lost my mother on December 26th, hearing of someone else in the hospital truly brings out my sympathies, as well as empathy. Keep up the amazing work you produce and stay in good spirits. We are all pulling for you, expecting a FULL recovery in the near future and I'm so glad I went with a more expensive membership. Hopefully my small contribution helps with some of your expenses! |

Hi. I know that you have never heard about me but I have been a fan of yours for many, many years. I have always liked your wallpapers and I put them on both of my machines at home and both laptops as well. I am sorry to hear about your condition and I am glad to hear you are doing better. I do not know if you beleive in God or have faith in Him but I wanted to let you know that I am praying for your full recovery. Keep those great wallpapers coming and take it slow until you are able to speed it up! Sincerely, CZ... |

Wow! I haven't logged in for a while and I'm just reading 'bout recent developments. Ryan, be strong brother, and get your mind and body well again. I include the mind because, I can tell by your recent postings that the Crohns and subsequent surgeries have had a major negative impact on your recent quality of life. So, please think positive thoughts and accept my and my family's best wishes for a healthy, and speedy recovery. |

Hiya ryan ! I've been in the hospital a few times myself, one of which was to get my appendics removed so I kinda know how your feeling. Just take it slow and hopefully all this will be behind you for good. Once you get well enough I have a suggestion for a new piece. Many years ago you did a poser called frio that has always been my favorite. I know every once in awhile you go back to do updated versions of previous work and I think this would be a excellent candidate. However my suggestion is to have a mummy poser coming out of sand instead of ice and perhaps even call it "Sandman". I think this would be spectacular and especially since you have far better tools at your disposal now. Take care of yourself and get well soon ! |

Hope the recovery process is quick and not too painful. My Dad is just now beginning to eat after 90 days of being fed through a tube. He can only have apple sauce and other mushy stuff, but he's in heaven just eating that. I was going to get him a mini-laptop to keep him busy, but I found the same thing, no wifi in hospitals. I guess they have enough to worry about without dealing with netowrk security for the patients. The hospital my Dad was in lost his reading glasses and his teeth (full bridge). They'll pay to replace those items, but I bet they wouldn't want to be responsible for a bunch of laptops. Probably another reason why there's no wifi. Get well soon, Ryan. |

Hey Ryan, Glad to hear you are up and about. I hope this is the end of your difficult road with your health problems. I work at a small ( 160 Bed ) hospital in Maryland. I work in the IT department, anyway we only have WiFi in the main lobby and the cafeteria because of the cost. We have an in-house WiFi for our own computers but putting public WiFi out is just not in the budget, yet. We get asked a lot too. I am glad you are online and up and about. Take your time in healing, don't rush back to work. Take Care Your Friend Robert macmage |

Dear Ryan, I'm sorry to hear about the illnesses and health complications you've been having, it's only when you have these types of problems that you realise how blessed you are when you don't. I really do wish you courage and am sending lots of positive thoughts to help you through the healing process ahead. All the best, Cecile |
||

Do what you need to so that you heal properly. I know from personal experience that pushing too hard too soon after major surgery can just lead to complications that will take you back to the doctor and put you back on the sick list, so rest up! Good fortune to you! |
||
Walo |
Man you are lucky they let you use a laptop with wireless internet in the hospital, if it was here they would confiscate my laptop(and probably use it themselves) under the excuse of microwave interference with hospital equipment just to make my life miserable. But getting to the point, I'm glad you are doing ok and I hope you keep getting better. |

Hi Guy, I believe there are quite a few of us who know what you're going through, and how you feel (in all of the ways you can; physically, mentally, spiritually, etc.). Today is the 11th anniversary of the slide down the hill that gave me a burst fracture of my L5 vertebra; I've lived in pain every damb day since, even after fusion surgery. Boy, can I relate, and do. My prayers are heading up on a daily basis for you. I've taken a trip through the past years on "our" site, and just enjoyed looking at the beautiful art you've created. Thank you again, for accomplishing something great and successful with what God has seen fit to grant you. You're the best. :-) Mmn. |

Im happy to hear everything is slowly improving for you. I admire your hard work ethic always thinking of others, not wanting them to worry about you. You shouldn't worry about us, there's no need for you to rush back to work. I think this may be a sign that you should take it slow for several weeks. I know you said it hurts to laugh but hopefully this raises your spirits. A woman in Arkansas brought her baby in to see the doctor, and he determined right away the baby had an ear ache. He wrote a prescription for ear drops. In the directions he wrote, "Put two drops in right ear every four hours" and he abbreviated "right" as an R with a circle around it. Several days passed, and the woman returned with her baby, complaining that the baby still had an earache, and his little behind was getting really greasy with all those drops of oil. The doctor looked at the bottle of ear drops and sure enough, the pharmacist had typed the following instructions on the label: "Put two drops in R ear every four hours." |

Hey Ryan. Told you a few days back about my hints for getting out of the hospital quickly. One of old docs I knew in the early '80s would always ask his post-op bowel surgery patients, "Have you farted yet?". I still use that line on patients. Sign of a normalizing bowel. Keep up the good work, and I'm glad you are recovering. Take care buddy. And now..... Here are a few one liners from the King of one liners.. Henny Youngman. A doctor gave a man six months to live. The man couldn't pay his bill, so he gave him another six months. The Doctor called Mrs. Cohen saying, "Mrs. Cohen, your check came back." Mrs. Cohen answered, "So did my arthritis!" The Doctor says, "You'll live to be 60!" "I AM 60!" "See, what did I tell you?" The patient says, "Doctor, it hurts when I do this." "Then don't do that!" "Doctor, my leg hurts. What can I do?" The doctor says, "Limp!" "Doctor, I have a ringing in my ears." "Don't answer!" |

A duck walks into a bar and asks, "Got any grapes?" The bartender, confused, tells the ducks that no, his bar doesn't serve grapes. The duck thanks him and leaves. The next day, the duck returns and says, "Got any grapes?" Again, the bartender tells him that, no, the bar does not serve grapes, has never served grapes, and, furthermore, will never serve grapes. The duck, a little ruffled, thanks him and leaves. The next day, the duck returns, but before he can say anything, the bartender begins to yell: "Listen, duck! This is a bar! We do not serve grapes! If you ever ask for grapes again, I will nail your stupid duck beak to the bar!" The duck is silent for a moment, and then asks, "Got any nails?" Confused, the bartender says no. "Good!" says the duck. "Got any grapes?" |

During a recent publicity outing, Jennifer sneaked off to visit a fortune teller of some local repute. In a dark and hazy room, peering into a crystal ball, the mystic delivered grave news. "There's no easy way to say this, so I'll just be blunt: Prepare yourself to be a widow. Your husband will die a violent and horrible death this year." Visibly shaken, Jennifer stared at the woman's lined face, then at the single flickering candle, then down at her hands. She took a few deep breaths to compose herself. She simply had to know. She met the fortune teller's gaze, steadied her voice, and asked her question. "Will I be acquitted?" |

The boss of a big company needed to call one of his employees about an urgent problem with one of the main computers. He dialed the employees home phone number and was greeted with a child's whispered, "Hello?" Feeling put out at the inconvenience of having to talk to a youngster the boss asked, "Is your Daddy home?" "Yes", whispered Little Johnny. May I talk with him?" the man asked. To the surprise of the boss, Little Johnny whispered, "No." Wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, "Is your Mommy there?" "Yes", came the answer. "May I talk with her?" Again Little Johnny whispered, "No." Knowing that it was not likely that a young child would be left home alone, the boss decided he would just leave a message with the person who should be there watching over the child., "Is there any one there besides you?" the boss asked the child. "Yes", whispered Little Johnny, "A policeman." Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the boss asked, "May I speak with the policeman?" "No, he's busy", whispered Little Johnny. "Busy doing what?" asked the boss. "Talking to Daddy and Mommy and the Fireman", came the whispered answer. Growing concerned and even worried as he heard what sounded like a helicopter through the ear piece on the phone the boss asked, "What is that noise?" "A hello-copper", answered the whispering Little Johnny. "What is going on there?" asked the boss, now alarmed. In an awed whispering voice Little Johnny answered, "The search team just landed the hello-copper!" Alarmed, concerned and more than just a little frustrated the boss asked, "Why are they there?" Still whispering, Little Johnny replied along with a muffled giggle, "They're looking for me!" |

One day in a great forest there was a magical frog walking down to the watering hole. This forest was so big that the frog had never seen another animal in it's life. By chance today a bear was chasing a rabbit to have for its dinner. The frog called for the two to stop. the frog said "Seeing as you are the only two animals I have seen, I will grant you each three wishes. Bear you first" the bear thought for a minuite, being the male that he was he said "I wish for all the bears in the forest except me to be female" The rabbit wished for a crash helmut, the bear thought to himself 'Stupid rabbit why is he wasting his wishes' It was the bear's next turn "Well i wish all the bears in the next forest were female" the rabbit wished for a motorcycle. The bear was stunned 'Why didn't the rabbit wish for money to buy a motorbike' It was the bears last wish "OK I wish for all the bears in the world except me where female" the rabbit laughed and gunned the engine then said "I wish the bear was gay". |

A couple of women were playing golf one sunny Saturday morning. The first of the twosome teed off and watched in horror as her ball headed directly toward a foursome of men playing the next hole. Indeed, the ball hit one of the men, and he immediately clasped his hands together at his crotch, fell to the ground and proceeded to roll around in evident agony. The woman rushed down to the man and immediately began to apologize. She said, "Please allow me to help. I'm a physical therapist and I know I could relieve your pain if you'd allow." "Ummph, oooh, nnooo, I'll be all right...I'll be fine in a few minutes," he replied breathlessly as he remained in the fetal position still clasping his hands together at his crotch. But she persisted, and he finally allowed her to help him. She gently took his hands away and laid them to the side, she loosened his pants,and she put her hands inside. She began to massage him. She then asked him, "How does that feel?" To which he replied, "It feels great, but my thumb still hurts like hell." |

Hey Ryan, I hope your surgery went well and you are recovering smoothly. Crohn's disease can be pretty challenging, but I'm glad to hear that the diseased part of your GI tract is pretty small. There are also some excellent new drugs to treat this disease which can help manage the inflammation. I have enjoyed your work for many many years and I think you are one of the best digital artists I have ever seen, if not the best. Thanks for all the beautiful scenes and images you have created, and I really look forward to the even better pieces you will make in the future. Take care, and best of luck for a quick recovery, Andrew |

I cat help but feeling the most sympathy for you when I read this last post. I don't normally post comments, but your last post certainly compelled me to do so. I have Crohn's disease as well, I was diagnosed at age 12. I have also had the same surgery that you will be getting now - the section of my diseased (inflamed) intestine was removed when I was 18. The decision to have this surgery was the best decision that I have ever made. I am now 26 and have been in remission ever since I had my surgery. In the months leading up to the surgery, much like you it sounds, I was in some of the most severe pain that I have ever experienced in my life; nausea, vomiting, debilitating pain, no appetite, and pretty extreme weight loss (20lbs in 2 weeks) was the norm for me. Since then, there is nothing that I havent been able to do - every symptom that I ever experienced from Crohn's is a thing of the past. The 10 days I spent in the hospital, and the following recovery at home was certainly not my funnest of memories, yet looking back, those days have allowed me to live the rest of my days to the absolute fullest; for that, I hold no regrets. I completely understand where you are coming from and wish you and your family the best - this is just a bit of a speed bump, that's all. |

Hans Nieper a genius doctor in Germany discoverd with disease and cancer it is a result of the lack of specific nutrients in the body so he flooded the body with nutritional minerals like Calcium, Potassium, Magnesium and Lithium Orotate. He cured, cancer, depression, high blood pressure and all kinds of ailments using these minerals and his work was virtually ignored here in the U.S. (because it would put many drug companies out of business). www.iherb.com has all of these mineral orotates for sale. www.wellnessresources.com has a superior Daily Energy Multi Vitamin with pure B-12 not the cheap cynacobalamin kind that most people take that breaks down in the body as cyanide. Cell Food from Vitamin Shoppe is great as well. I would give all these a shot and eliminate all meat from your diet. Within 3 months your symptoms will be gone. Take your disease into your own hands, our health care system is in the stone age and very few doctors know about nutrition, only how to write scripts for drugs. Also, some Yoga stomach exercises like Kapalpati Pranayam will help a lot. Take this info or leave it, but I have done my homework and have tried everything I am recommending to you. I wish you the best. John |

Vitamin Shoppe carries a product called Cell Food. Which is liquid oxygen, hydrogen, plant enzymes and planet based aminos. You put 8 drops in water or juice 2 to 3 times a day. Do this for three months and eliminate meat from your diet. All will be fine. Flax Seed can help with constipation and obstruction from medications. I know having been on painkillers for back trouble. Check out: Cell Food, I was skeptical but it is a wonder supplement. Very, very good. Best of luck to you brother. peace, John |

Two hobbits walk into a bar where one of them picks up a barfly. They take her to a local motel; the first hobbit goes into the motel room while the other waits outside. Once the door closes, the hobbit on the outside hears strange noises through the door, "I can't do it, I can't do it, I CAN'T DO IT!" In the morning, the second hobbit askes the first, "How did it go?" The first one answers. "It was embarrassing. I simply couldn't do it." The second hobbit shook his head. "Manhood problems, eh?" "No. I couldn't get on the bed!" |

A young reporter went to a retirement home to interview an aged but legendary explorer. The reporter asked the old man to tell him the most frightening experience he had ever had. The old explorer said, "Once I was hunting Bengal tigers in the jungles of India. I was on a narrow path and my faithful native gunbearer was behind me. Suddenly the largest tiger I have ever seen leaped onto the path in front of us. I turned to get my weapon only to find the native had fled. The tiger leapt toward me with a mighty ROARRRR! I soiled myself." The reporter said, "Under those circumstances anyone would have done the same." The old explorer said, "No, not then - just now when I went ROARRRR!" |

Hi Ryan, It's horrible, Crohn's, one of my relatives had Crohn's, but survived after a long period of "hospital in, hospital out". I really hope - when your surgeon removes that part - that this will be the last you see from Crohn's and that you will recover soonest. OK, you need some medicine after, but that's something to overcome and not a problem. Be positive, feel positive and heal. You still have a lot to do in life. Best wishes, a good health to you, from Peer55 |

Ryan, I often find it helps to look on the lighter side of things even in dark times. I am not poking fun at your situation but that I would share an equally "delicate" conversation. When my wife was pregnant with our first child she developed hemorrids in her third trimester. As the Proctologist told us "it is common for this to happen as the baby drops lower" and the due date nears. However, during the last few weeks of pregnancy they were exacerbated. We often had to visit the ER and have them "opened". The doctors finally agreed to induce labor a week early so she could have emergency surgery as she was in a great deal of pain. As they prepped her with her IV the Proctologist checked in one last time and confirmed the severity "Those are some of the most impressive I have seen in my 20 years". Still to this day I remember him using the term "impressive". Now my wife was very embarrassed about her "problem" and I never saw "them" until that night in the hospital. In pain and tired she asked me if I would rub some cream on them to help with the pain. I didn't hesitate but I did wonder what I might encounter. When I saw the nearly golf-ball sized hemorrhoids I immediately went from shock to complete empathy. I have had small ones in my life and I know how discomforting they were. These massive things attached to a dainty 9 month pregnant women...I couldn't fathom how she lasted this long! Skip ahead...she gave birth friends and family quickly piled in then the doctor arrived for surgery. By this time all the friends and family knew the situation of her problem so my wife and they were joking about it. As the family shuffled out to let the doctor do his thing many jokingly said "we'll pray for you". My highly medicated wife yells out across the room "Pray for my ass too!" Nine years later at family functions someone always says "Pray for my ass". The morale of the story: Be careful what you say under anesthesia! |

Stress, Stress, Stress. That is one of the big accelerators of Crohn's. You so need to rest & meditate, if you're into that. You need to sleep. You must not make yourelf do anything at all that you do not wish to do. Guilt from not doing what you perceive you should is counter- productive Not wishing to pry, but, are you married? You need looking after. You need the right foods in the right amounts at the right intervals. The hospital can probably give you a diet chart. Scam everything you can while you're in there. Gentle massage while you ar at home will help to relax you. I am so glad you told us all. You can get help from so many people. Accept all the help that is offered if it seems good to you. Get well Gabi |

I had the same surgery you are having almost 5 years ago. Give yourself some time after the surgery to heal and give your body time to rest. Took me about 3 weeks to finally start feeling better. This is a major deal and you definitely want everything to heal correctly. I know what type of pain you're in and I know that is pain that not even a bottle of Advil can touch. I just wanted to wish you good luck and quick recovery. Thank you for all of the wonderful wallpapers. |

I wish you a speedy recovery from the surgery, indeed! Keep up the good spirits, keep your family close, and never stop doing what you love to do. As a Pharmacist who treats at least 10 Crohn's patients in my area, I can tell you that with careful monitoring of your own body, you can control the disease rather than be controlled by it. The drugs may not be fun to take but we really can help you live a normal life -- even with Crohn's. Know that lots of people are thinking about you and wishing you well. Keep hope, Derek J. I know it's tough right now. I spent the better part of last year and the year before pretty sick myself with Candidiasis. While not the same thing it's still pretty scary not knowing how things are going to turn out. But at least you have the correct diagnosis and have a plan on getting things taken care of. I'm sure I speak for everyone here wishing you the best of luck right now. Hopefully everything will work out ok. Don't worry about DB right now. You've got more important things to deal with. Be with your family, your wife and beautiful kids. I'm sure it's pretty tough for them too. We'll be here when you're ready to come back. Take care and good luck. Sean |

Ryan, I have been absent for awhile and came back to hear of your travails with the entrails. It's hard to believe one with such beautiful talent has to bear such pain. I'm confident, however, the universe will respond to great intention, and I intend to add mine on your behalf. Get well fellow traveler... |

I'm glad to hear that you are slowly coming to grips with your diagnosis. As a member of the medical profession I wish you the best of luck. Fortunately, in the vast majority of cases, the disease can be brought under control very well. Just hang in there! You will be in my thoughts and prayers. |

A few years ago I went to the ER due to 2 days of none stop stomach problems. Crohn's disease. Before that day, I had never in my entire life been through so many test, scans, and other medical procdures in 1 weeks time. For the last year, i've been fine. But from things that I've read, It can spring back. No I'm forced to watch what I eat and drink. I use to be a big fan of habanero peppers. (One of the 3 hottest peppers in the world). Now I can't eat some so-called mild peppers. My heart do cry out for you. Just to let you know, you are not alone. |

That sounds like a real pain in the ass... I know I know, I can't possibly have been the first to say it though. I am sure everything will come out alright in the end. Wait... that was worse... I once met a dyslexic surgeon... he was a real cut up. On no.. one-liners! A priest, a Rabbi, and a Nun walk into a bar. The Rabbi says "What is this, a joke?" Now there is an idea, let's stop telling Ryan what he already knows (that we are sorry, his art is great, and we will wait) and fill this place with jokes so he can have something to laugh at while he recovers. 187 cashews walk into a bar and ask the bartender for a drink. The bartender says "What are you, nuts?" |

Good luck man. I know what it's like to be consistently under, having had a polynidal cyst develop and regrow after each attempt to remove it all from my tailbone. It took 4 surgeries to finally get rid of all of it. Left me with a scar that runs from the middle of my back to the bottom of my rear, a disfigured backside, and little to no feeling in the rear right. You have my sympathies :) |

Hi Ryan, I'm glad that you decided to share about your health issues (even given the risk of TMI). As you know, I share your art with many people, and direct them to your site at every opportunity. Your work is a part of my life, and I've followed it for many years now, as you met your wife and started your family. While we only communicate via email, *you* and your health (and your family, of course) are of interest/concern to me. I'm glad to hear that you are getting closer to a resolution of the ongoing issues, and I'm very glad you have chosen to let us know what's up. Thank you for sharing your art with us, I cannot thank you enough for that. All my best to you and your family, - Wiz Here's one of my nature photos, I hope you like it:

It is difficult to describe the little part you play on the stage of our lives... Looking at one of your works of art takes the edge off of a tough day at work, and hoping for that next amazing image leads me to my bookmark toolbar where you are one of the first sites I check in my morning ritual before diving into the chaos of the day. The one thing that life has repeatedly taught me from a young age is that there is ALWAYS time to stop and improve your health, and there is ALWAYS time to spend with family. I know I speak for all of your fans when I say that we are horribly disappointed when we log in and there isn't another Michelangelo or Monet... but that we have more concern for you as a person than we do for our wallpaper. Take time for what is most important, the rest will come together. |

Hey, Sorry to hear of what's going on. I hope all turns around for you. Suprisingly, I have a little information that may or may not help you. My sister-in-law has a very very severe case of Chrone's and it's nasty stuff. She goes for regular treatments and infusions which have been helping but what has worked for her the best is a treatment called Remicade. Since she started on that about two years ago, she has only been hospitalized once with a flair up and it went away in about half the time her usual flairs did. I obviously don't know what you have talked about with your doctor's nor am I a doctor but if you haven't talked about that treatment, it may be worth a question. Best of luck to you and I hope you feel better soon. - Justin |

Ryan, I am so very sorry to hear about this, but it sounds like your operation will be a very good one with people that know very well what to do. I wish you a speedy recovery and the fact they say you'll be able to live a normal life after it (minus the monthly vitamin shot) is superb to hear. |

Ryan, I've never posted comments on your site before, but this time I feel compelled to relay to you my well-wishes. Several years back, my brother was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (a condition very similar to crohn's--only it's an inflammation of the large instead of the small intestine). On a few occasions, the infection has been so bad that my family has had to rush my brother to the emergency room. I remember one time that was particularly scary: my brother's hemoglobin count was one-third what it was supposed to be. I was very scared because I love my brother very much. I don't mean to add to your anxiety by telling my story. I just want you to know that I empathize with you and your situation. Recently, my brother has started on a new treatment called "remicade," and since then, he has improved TREMENDOUSLY. He is back to his old spunky, healthy self. I know that things are probably unbearable for you right now. I don't know you at all, but I hope and pray that, like my brother, you too will experience a speedy and sizable improvement, whether it be through this surgery that you are about to endure or some other future treatment. By all the comments left for you so far, it is clear that you have the support of hundreds. Hold on. You'll get through this. My Best, Sam |
||

Ryan, You have all my positive thoughts that I can send your way. I hope by the time you read this it will be all over and you will be recovering. I have a friend with Crohn's Disease so I can empathize somewhat. I have my own problems, but that's another story. Best of luck and take good care of yourself! I love your work! You are obviously a very talented, creative person. Lyn |

Ryan, I've been following your work online for the last 7 years and have been extremely impressed with your work. That is why I was so shocked to here about your current condition. I have been praying, and hoping you will have a full recovery. I can not even begin to imagine what kind of pain you have been feeling the last couple of months. This lastest surgery better clear up all the infection, or I am going to those doctors myself and giving them a piece of my mind! Ok, maybe I won't get that extreme. But I want you to know that I do care about you, and your family, and am praying you will have a speedy recovery. God Bless, Jordan |

We'll still appreciate your wallpapers just the same whether you get back to us in a couple weeks or a couple months. Plus know you can catch up on all the great shows that have been on recently! I'll put my stamp of approval on House but after going through surgery that might not be the best option. Hope the recovery goes well |

Damn, buddy. If you can get better in the next few weeks you are a very strong individual. My friend has Crohn's and he was off work for eight months and has had a dozen surgeries by now. He only just came back to work a couple months ago. Best wishes and may you have strength to get through this difficult time. Also strength to your family as they are usually the unremembered "collateral" damage when a loved one gets sick. |

I have one family member and one good friend with Crohn's Disease, and I see the difficulties they face very often. It's very tough condition, so I fervently wish you and other Crohn's patients a full and complete recovery, with no relapses. Just last month Science Daily reported that surgeries to help this condition are making steady progress. Here's hoping you get the best of care from your doctors. All the best! |

I echo what I am sure many other have said. Do what is best for your family and for you. My family will keep you in our prayers and hope you can get back to doing the things you love soon. Hearing to open up about a common (but understandably embarrassing) disease oddly makes me feel like I am part of some secret society where will all look out for and care about each other. Wishing you well in your recovery. |

Well, if your year is starting out this crappy, you can figure that it will only get better from here! Thank you for sharing with your fans what's been going on, it shows us how much you care. :-) Take care of yourself, and don't rush the healing process too much. I've been here for several years, as have many of your fans, and I doubt we're going anywhere. :-) Get well soon! |

Just want to wish you the best Ryan. I've had to take time off work before due to being unwell (appendix rupture) which had me off for close to 3 months. Its not a nice experience and leaves you feeling helpless. We'll ass be here when you get back. For now we can only wish you and your family the best as an illness affects the whole family. AS a long time subscriber to your website, I was saddened to hear that you have not been well. It sounds like the ordeal you have endured so far has been pretty awful. I had a pretty bad year last year with a couple of clumsy accidents (falling down the stairs at home and breaking my ankle), so I understand how these things really mess with your life as you know it. I will be sending you much healing energy. :) |

I hope you get well soon Ryan more so for yourself and the family's sake than anything else. I hope your wife and kids stay strong and get you through this awful time. This disease must have came about because of something you ingested. My guess is something in your daily diet that you are unknowingly eating has finally caused this problem. If you could find that then it might stop. I don't believe the human body just wakes up one day and decides to attack you for no reason. Something had to have caused it right? |

Wow... That's horrible. Less horrible than what I had been thinking - since Crohn's has a reasonably good chance of leading long and 'healthy' life after the fact. Sorry to hear that you were one of the not so lucky statistics that had a lot of complications. But glad to hear that sun appears to be shining on the horizon. Take care of yourself! I'd rather wake up to a message that you're taking some time off that one saying you've been taken from us by not taking the time to heal fully :( *hugs* to you and your family!! |

I know how hard it is to be diagnosed with something you would rather not deal with, but, remember....you will improve! I've got issues with my spine, after years of working in law and labs, and, unfortunately, repair is not an option for my condition. Living and working with it is difficult when you know it will never improve. We do what we have to and we get through -- it's the cards we were dealt in life and we make the most of each day. You will find that what you have experienced will now take you down different avenues that you may not have traveled in the past. Be strong, think positively, heal and feel better! You are a talented guy and should be proud of your accomplishments. I wish you all the best as you recover. Here's to a Happy New Year! |

My fiance has the disease and it only became full blown about 4-5 years ago. Her brother has it and has been in and out of the hospital all his life due mostly to his poor decision making. While I don't have the disease, I can tell you that while the surgery will be unpleasant, and the likely colostomy bag will be uncomfortable, after its all over you'll feel better then you have in a long time. After you allow your body to repair the damage to your intestines, its much easier to manage. Still its a tough road because even after the surgery, getting the drugs to the right level for you without exposing you to danger is hard. The steroids help my fiance a lot and totally alleviate her symptoms but have unfortunate side effects and become dangerous if taken for too long. There are many, many books on the disease, and since you are in the hospital, I suggest asking your wife to go to your local book store and pull a few off the shelf, perhaps with some suggestions from your specialist. I'd suggest some myself but I don't live with my fiance, and I wont see her until the weekend unfortunately since she teaches skiing during the week. Good luck with your recovery and I hope you feel better. |

Wow - I'm so sorry to hear of your terrible health issues :( I wish you well and hope you are feeling better soon. I don't know if you've ever heard of Edgar Cayce but I have been reading some books based on his readings for a couple of years now and I've found some of his remedies helpful for some of my own health issues. Well, Ryan, after reading up on what Crohn's disease actually is, I want to send my warmest wishes that this surgery aids you in getting better. There is no actual cure, but hopefully the meds they give you will help keep it in check. I'm so sorry for your diagnosis, and I keep you and the family in my warmest wishes and thoughts. Ryan I was saddened to hear of your condition & all the surgery, pain & ER visits you've had. I truly sympathize & empathize as I've had chronic gut/abdominal/genitial area pain since I broke my neck at sixteen. The pain has increased every year to the point I'm almost bedfast now so I get the frustration of not being able to do or make enough time to do most anything. I hope & believe your struggle, efforts & surgeries will be successful & you will once again have a relatively normal body & life to share with your family. I'm truly happy for that. Hang in there & good luck Ryan. I'm rooting for you & your family. God bless & my best thoughts, hopes & prayers I send to you & everyone in your recovery & in dealing with your condition triumphantly going forward. :):):) Take care friend as it seems I've known you so long now. :D tommy |

Get well soon! And take your time recovering; we'll wait. |

Hey Ryan! Me and my sibling have been dealing with Crohn's since we were both 16. I understand your issues, it's really rough. But luckily its very manageable once you get it under control. I myself have been going without a flareup or any major symptoms with no medication for 8 months! I'd like you to know that your art has always inspired me, even when my illness has drug me into the depths of depression. Just know that all the other Crohnies out there know what you're going through and are rooting for you! Best of wishes and good luck with your surgery. |

Nasty disease if not diagnosed. May the surgery go well. Make the necessary changes in your lifestyle. Then once you recover from the surgery, your life should go back to full speed ahead. I have plenty of your wallpapers on my hard drive to keep me occupied for however long it take for you to make a full recovery. I think it is a good time for all of us DB fans to take this hiatus to revisit some old favorites and enjoy them again. If you're anything like me, your mind will not stop while you are in recovery. More than likely you will have a wealth of ideas to bring into being. More than likely your computer system will be overwhelmed. I know it will be worth the wait then! |

Ryan I want to give you my best wishes on your recovery. It means a lot that your willing to share what you've been dealing with the past few years. I understand your need for privacy, I don't like sharing personal issues with people either. Though we highly respect you Ryan as a person and your artwork as well. You've given us a lot over the years i don't know how we can ever thank you for all of your hard work while battling health problems along the way. You work hard to make us happy. It's great to hear you should be much healthier in the long run. Do what you need and take all the time off you want. Take Care. |

Who had the exact same thing last February. She had the same surgery you are having now (funny - we were just talking about it again last night!) and she is fine now. It was scary for a bit when they couldn't figure out what was wrong but they did the surgery on her intestine to remove the scar tissue and she was in the hospital about a week. Hang in there! |

Wow, please please please do what you need to do to recover! I looked up Crohn's on Wikipedia, and it seems to be one mean ailment. We can wait as long as necessary for you to heal up; I'm one of your lifelong subscribers, and having paid a paltry $99, I am more than willing to wait as long as you need to recover. If that means waiting 6 months to a year or more, I'm all for it. Seriously. Hopefully, for your sake, your recovery time is speedier than that, but in the meantime, take as much time as your body needs to heal. I wish you good health, Ryan; take care! |

That was very brave of you to open to us like you just did. That is a very rough condition you have. We will wait it out with you. Your work is too great for all of us to fall off your bandwagon. I wish you the best in your recovery and your long term health. I have one of the worse condions of asthma on the planet. I make reular visits to the emergency room. I have almost died about 12 times. All from the same thing, my blood/oxygen level gets to low. It got down to 75% at one low point. At 72% your brain starts to turn off your vital organs and you suficate to death. I know how it feels to be in a bad situation and have a condition that could take you 6ft under. I live with this everyday of my life. Even advancements in modern medicine for asthma still dont do it for me. My condition is much worse than a normal asthmatic. All we can do is hope and prey for the best. I will prey for you. Stay strong, keep fighting, and you shall overcome. You will be on my mind, i give you my best wishes. Can't wait for your new work. God bless you Ryan. -dejerdejer |

Ryan: It is during these times that one realizes what a magnificient machine God has created when he made our bodies. God has given you a wonderful gift and for that we are all extremely thankful. God Bless ----- |

Wow, best of luck with everything. I'm not sure if you believe in prayer or not, but I'm praying for you none-the-less. (Hey, it's not like it ever hurt anyone). Since you're self employed, your patrons could be viewed as your boss. So, as your pseudo-boss, I'm telling you that you may take as much time off as you need. Get your health first, your work will still be there when you're better. |

It sounds like this has been a pretty bad year. I'm glad you finally let us know what has been going on. Hi Ryan, Sorry to hear of your ongoing medical problems, heres hoping this solution they propose will get you feeling better again soon. Good decision to have the operation Ryan. As an RN I have looked after hundreds of Crohns patients over my 30yr career. The surgery (depending on where and how much bowel is removed) is sometimes the only route if you want to be "normal" and prevent more complications. As one of the commentors below stated, it is a disease that you can live with your whole life with good attention to your health/diet etc. Hope your hospital stay is comfortable. As I tell my patients, your job is to get out of the hospital as quickly and safely as you can. Get up and move, with your eyes fixed on the exit and home! Good luck! |

Ryan, Man, 2008 was a rollercoaster for you, it seems. I figured something was pretty wrong beyond what you were telling us, but Crohn's disease takes the cake. Your continued efforts in spite of your pain and discomfort are much appreciated; indeed, they are inspiring. Here's to a speedy and conclusive recovery! Speaking of inspiration, if the suffering hasn't provided any for your artwork, perhaps the effects of the pain medication will! Maybe something dreamy and psychedelic... :) |
||

I've got the same problem, you learn to live with it. Trust me, as long as the surgery is done right, your quality of life will improve. Hang in there. |

Michael |
You have mine. You definitely don't seem to have the attitude of so many "whiners" out there, and I can appreciate how tough it would've been to talk about it. That said, I've had relatives with Crohn's disease, and once the diagnosis has been made and treatment occurs, it's a pretty manageable thing. Could be much worse! So, good luck! I hope everything works out for the best for you. Of course, that is in part just a matter of personal greed... I want more great wallpapers!! :) |
||
Robin |
Once when I was very ill, someone gave me a card with the message that this was the time to heal. There's no better advice than that. We all love your work, but you're where the magic comes from and you come first. However long it takes for you to be fully well is just that -- however long it takes. Take care of yourself and we'll all be pulling for you. |

Ryan, so sorry to hear you've been having such a terrible time. I can't believe how you've managed to keep your artistic output up and still improoving while you've been going through all that. Man, Ryan, I'm so sorry to hear about this, but also relieved that you're getting an operation that should fix you up. I guess the silver lining is that it's a small section, and that the removal shouldn't impact the rest of your life too much. I've had friends with Crohn's that haven't been so lucky, and I'm glad you are (in a horrible situation) getting off (relatively) easy, though I'm sure I lack the perspective to really say it! I'm just happy for you that you should come ok out on the other end, and that this painful saga will be behind you (NO pun intended). Good luck, get well soon, and know that all your fans are pulling for you! |
||
Dave |
Good luck with your recovery. This too shall pass. |

The bad news is that we know you are in pain and there is nothing we can do about it. However, the good news is that we know you are strong and can get through this. Get better. Take your time. Spend all the time you need to heal and be with your family and know we will be waiting with open arms when you return. Namaste |

I hope that everything came out ok. I know that I do not know you personally, but your work tells chapters about you. I will pray for you and just keep resting until you are sure you can return. you have enough posted right now for me to keep changing my desktops, lol. Peace be with you! |

Good luck with surgery and the recovery. I'm glad for you that the doctors FINALLY know what's going on, and that things will be relativly normal once you recover. I'll keep you in my thoughts. Now that you know that things are going to get resolved, hopefully you'll take your recovery slowly and don't push yourself: I KNOW you're itching to get back to that project, but let thyself heal first. |
||

Best wishes on the surgery! I understand how frustrating that can be with problem after problem, and the relief of finally getting a solid diagnosis...no matter how "bad" that diagnosis is. I'm glad it sounds like you will be able to lead a great life after this, hopefully returning to some semblance of normalcy. Our thoughts are with you during your recovery. |

Ryan- Thank you for all the hard work throughout your diagnosis and treatment, I'm sure it's been tough. Take it easy and get well soon. Meanwhile, we'll all be sending up a couple prayers in your direction. -Woody |

Best wishes to you, my friend. I'm sorry to hear that things have been rough lately, but the good thing is that things will finally be back to normal after this. Hang in there! |
