Unchained
"The idea for this one came to me after my Bucephalus workstation had finished a particularly long render. This is how I feel moving from working on my laptop to working on my main machine ;-)

This one really belongs with "Year of the Dragon" and "Dragon's Gold" since I started the project around the same time. I just took me a little bit longer to finish."

"Take Me Away"
Take me far far away from real life problems and transport me to a world where Dragons assist me battle pragmatic characters!

Sierra Autumn
" An Autumn version of my "Sierra (2012)" render. I actually had to render this one twice (once with green leaves and once with fall colors) and combine them in Photoshop so I could vary the leaves on a "per-tree" basis.

A bit harsh, but there is something weird about it. My initial reaction when in the browser was that it was beautiful, but in dual screen it looks weird. I think a big problem is the floating rocks - like gravity doesn't exist here...yet the water stays so still and down that the rocks don't have water marks.

Sierra
"With this piece I am trying to picture what "Highland Spring might look like viewed from below. The title comes from a scene I put together in 1999.

I may yet tweak a few things in this scene but I think it looks pretty nice for a first draft. Let me know what you think!"

Probably not until I can build Project Shadowfax. This render took forever at only 3K!

Year of the Dragon
"This piece started out as a commission for a rather well-known individual, but for reasons beyond my control I was never able to deliver it as a private piece. I thought the idea behind it was pretty cool however so I went ahead and fleshed it out. I wonder if anyone can guess who the original recipient was supposed to be..."

I was born in the Year of the Dragon and have been looking for something special like this. Great work.

Windflower
"A floral experiment (using Xfrog and Lightwave 11) I started after seeing a photo online of a Blue Anemone Windflower. The end result didn't turn out a whole lot like the original flower, but I kept the name. Still a few issues to work out with this one, but I think it looks nice enough to share as is."

"Pixelation on Dual-Screen"
The left screen on 3200x1200 has a lot of pixelation on the leaves... very incongruous with the sharp flower...

Redfern Forest
"I was inspired to create this scene after seeing a cover photo on one of my Facebook fan's profile page. Once I got into putting things together, however, it ended up looking very little like the original scene. I still have an issue or two with this one to resolve, but it took over 27 hours to render so I thought I would share it as is while I continue working."

The Floating Garden
"I would just like to say thanks to everyone for the kind words posted here and on my Facebook account regarding the recent loss of my father. I am still reeling from all of this but it helps that my four brothers and my sister are all together now sharing stories and laughing/crying through our memories.

The saddest part of all of this, for me, is thinking about what my two boys are going to miss out on. I feel like I am greiving for the three us. Seven years ago my wife and I made the decision to move our family from sunny San Diego back to my hometown in Illinois so my kids could grow up with two grandparents around. Rather than rue the past however, I will try to be thankful for the few years we did have together.

One thing that I always knew about my Dad was that he loved to make things, whether it be music, painting, or Christmas presents for his grandkids. He loved telling stories.

I would like to think that his creative spirit will live on in my work. I am looking forward to sharing some of his paintings with you in the weeks ahead.

I've been working on this project for the past week or so and the render finally finished yesterday. Now I haven't decided if I am truly finished with it or not, but I thought it looked nice enough to post as is. I am not sure when I will be able to pick up work on it again.

I had thought to dedicate this to my father, but decided against it. I will create something more fitting in the future. Thanks again to everyone for the condolenses and prayers. "

So many of your pictures invite stories. I imagine a peculiar mineral growth that results in the hexagonal (octagonal?) pillars, which break down when they reach air, creating soil for the plants and trees. I wonder what lives of the inhabitants of this world would be like? I imagine humanoid primitives living amongst the small archipelagos, possibly swimming & playing with the dolphins. What would their culture be like, their world-view, being so connected to three elements; air, earth and water? Amazing.
