Winter Cliffs
By request, I've added a winter version of "Autumn Cliffs". I used a different camera in this scene to create Winter Revelation.

I just can't say enough good things about this one -- you've really outdone yourself this time, Ryan. The scene is so realistic that I wish I could go and see that gorgeous blue sky, breathe that frigid air, walk among those pines and touch that ice-blue water. It is just a beautiful scene.

Winter Revelation
The winter version of "Autumn Revelation". I was pretty happy with the cloud setup in the autumn version, but managed to tweak them a bit so they wouldn't look exactly the same (since this pic is supposed to be a whole new season). The evergreens have kept their needles but the colorful trees have dropped their leaves.

It's not easy to create artwork that deals with simple shades of white, gray and black, but I like this cool a d frosty image.

The Promise of Spring
Hard to believe it has been 7 years since I posted the original. I was never quite satisfied with how blocky and chaotic everything came out in the first version. I think this one has a bit more pop. I am not quite satisfied with how Vue d'Esprit's DOF came out this time. Some areas are great but others have a few artifacts (which are less noticeable at the lower resolutions). You might recognize my cherry tree model from Sakura (2013). This render is for anyone ready for Winter to be over...

A touch bright at the top and would have liked a bit more detail at the sides. It's a bit hard to see what all the grey is supposed to be. But overall I do like the way the light shows on the tree

Has someone else already asked this... Is it just me, or does it look like the light is coming out of the mouth of an angry looking man's profile up top?? Either way, I love it!

The Black Angel (Winter)
I created the original "Black Angel" as a Halloween wallpaper but I was already thinking how interesting it might look as a winter scene. I've used the same snow-covering technique that I first attempted in Hokkaido to cover the branches and vines with snow. This scene, however, was considerably more complicated so the results were not always perfect. Inspired by the Black Angel in Iowa City's Oakland Cemetary, which I became familiar with during my time as an undergrad at the University of Iowa in the 90s.

I'd love to see you do a whole seasonal series of this scene as you've done with some of your other images. The original is a lovely and moody piece of art that is excellent for Halloween and I delight at changing it to this now that we're in the midst of winter.

Hokkaido
This piece was inspired by a photo I saw of Hokkaido's famous "Blue Pond". My first version of this render kept the tropical blue from the original pond, but I am trying out a more wintry color palette here.

Believe it or not The Dreamer and this scene sprang from the same root, even though they couldn't be more different tonally.

PS: Purely coincidence that I am posting this on my 43rd birthday...

Great picture! The first thing I thought of was Hokkaido. I had the unfortunate experience to be sent there while in the military. Kind of reminds me of a "light" morning snow there. :-)

Gotham Garden (Winter)

On Christmas day 2011 DB Member "Puritania" asked if I could possibly complete my Gotham Garden seasonal series by adding a winter version.

It took me about a year to get back to it but I am happy to report winter has finally come to Gotham. The changes needed for winter are a bit more complicated than for the warmer seasons but I think it turned out pretty well.

I hope you enjoy it. I will try to have the multiscreen up shortly!

Just as I thought you had not shown snow falling except on GG winter, you introduce us to this. Oh, and thank you for adding three wolves. I understand that odd numbers are more asthetically pleasing, but I would rather see two of these magnificant creatures than one (probably means it has no pack-not good) as on Desert Snow and Desert Dawn.

Auroras are a favorite theme of mine. I've always used Lightwave to make them before but I thought it would be interesting to try out Apophysis. This is also my first render using the new Vue d'Esprit 9.

Highland Winter
The winter conclusion to my "Highland" seasonal series. I was going for a "frosted" look here and the stark colorless look is intentional. For better or worse, after 5 years of living in Illinois this is how I've come to see winter...

I love your images, and the multi season landscapes are wonderful, but making the winter version black and white ruins the realism for me. You have some wonderfully beautiful winter images in full colour with lots of blues like harbinger, worlds edge, canopy creek, and even arctica, and they look much better, more realistic, and refreshing.

For people like me who can enjoy winter, it is not a wholly dreary, depressing, and dead time of year, but a kind of freeze frame of nature where snow and ice blanket the world in a serene calmness.

Cold has a certain beauty to it. I urge you to consider recolouring these drab B&W winter scenes.

Cheers.

Wintermoon
In early 2010 I was asked to create a brighter version of "The Ride" for use as a printed Christmas card. After I removed the sleigh from the image I felt it made a pretty nice standalone "winter" wallpaper, deserving of its own spot in my gallery.

The daytime winter version of "Canopy Creek". It turned out a little too bright for my tastes so I also offer a night version which is a bit darker. Both are a little on the creepy side to be honest.

Harbinger
This is a very special image to me. I created it while recuperating from major abdominal surgery in early 2009 and in a way this represents my own personal phoenix.

I was re-reading George R.R. Martin's "Clash of Kings" at the time and a blood-red comet figures prominently in the story. The cyclical, returning, nature of the comet really inspired me.

The comet was created and rendered in Apophysis and composed in Lightwave into a sky-spanning "planet" plate for Vue d'Esprit.

Updated 6/22/11: I've added a blood-red version of this image (for Ice and Fire fans) in the Pickle Jar!

At World's Edge (Winter)
The second in my "At World's Edge" series. As I did with the "Green and Gold" tree, I fashioned this one out of many individual Vue tree models. I learned from my first mistake however and made sure the branches all intersected the trunk. That made possible this leafless Winter version. It is my personal favorite of the series.

My favourite (I'm from Australia, so yes, that's how we spell favourite) part of the image is the aurora in the sky.

If you could render an image with just the aurora in exactly the same pattern as Skysong filling an entire image, I'd love the new image even more :)

Thanks for all your great images

And I always love water in any of these wallpapers because I make my own icons and I have water-related ones like ducks and swans and fish. So I need somewhere to put them. :-)

The image looks too digital. It doesn't look realistic enough. My favourite wallpapers from your entire collection have been ones that take an unrealistic scene and make it look real. I like fantasy and dreams and I would love it even better if the fantasy and dreams actually came to life.

The trees here look too digital rendered. The snow looks fake really. It doesn't have that fluid, natural feel to it even though the overall image gives off the feeling of having a stroll down a path in the woods during winter.
