When I started the working on a Winter version of “Coda” I attacked the daytime version first. It wasn’t clicking for me so I switched to working on a night version and discovered the atmospheric settings that finally brought the daytime scene together for me. I’m glad you guys have enjoyed this scene! It was definitely fun to learn some new techniques.
I may revisit it once more (possibly for Spring or Summer) but right now I’m ready to move on to new vistas.

I mentioned when I first posted “Coda” that I wanted to attempt a winter version of the scene. I also wanted to do a night version of the scene and I felt like that would work better during Winter with the snow all lit up by the moonlight (which falls from a much higher angle in Winter vs Summer). Still, illuminating these night scenes without artificial light is always tricky and I went through many variations before arriving at one that I liked. I hope you like it too!
Still working on a day version with falling snow…

With the calendar turning quickly towards Winter I thought I would create one last Autumn pic for the year. Did it a little differently this time though. I took advantage of Quixel making their “Megascans” library free for the rest of the year and downloaded some of their photo-scanned 3D assets to see if they can work in my VUE scenes. I hope you enjoy the result. May incorporate more of their library into future projects 🙂
Thinking about attempting a winter version of this scene so stay tuned!

Happy Monday!
After sharing “Summer’s End” a number of folks commented that they enjoyed the scene but couldn’t use it on their desktop because it was brighter than they were used to. I received quite a few requests for a night version. After trying a few different scenarios which did not pass muster I came up with this foggy sunrise version scene which I hope you all will enjoy!
Sorry this one took a bit longer than usual to share. Cris and I recently moved DB 2.0 to a new server and shut off the “beta” site. We’ve also implemented a new caching system for the content here so the site should load and respond a lot faster than before. There’ve been a few bug to iron out (like the titles in the gallery showing up twice for logged in users) but everything is mostly working again.
We’ve also been working on getting the 2.0 version of the DB API released. It’s nearly ready and should pave the way for my work to return to DisplayFusion and perhaps to new mobile apps in the near future. If you want test the API and/or have input please check the DB 2.0 forum on my Discord server!

I started creating Halloween wallpapers back in 1998 and it’s become something of a tradition on DB for me to post something spooky every year. For this year’s offering I originally had the idea of a traveler in the woods surrounded by glowing eyes. As I was putting the scene together I switched gears to something a little more subtle and, hopefully, more frightening. No jack-o-lanterns, or other Halloween tropes here, but I hope it fits the vibe nonetheless.
