Necronomicon (Happy Halloween!!)

Happy Halloween!! I wasn’t entirely certain that I was going to create a Halloween render this year but, as sometimes happens, an idea struck and I started playing around. One thing I knew for certain was that I wanted it to be something that could be used year-round so I omitted many (but not all) of the traditional elements that tie it to the holiday.

Yes the title and theme are inspired by a Lovecraft story that I read long ago and whose title I cannot exactly recall 🙂

I rendered the single-screen version on Rochallor and the multiscreen version on Shadowfax using the same scene file but the two came out looking remarkably different. Each has their charms however so I’m posting it while trying to figure that one out. I hope you like the options though 😀

Descension



Multi-Screen Render

After creating Substellar I knew I wanted to do some sort of ground view scene using the planet. It seemed like just the right exercise after 7+ days of looking at the same Autumn tree. I intentionally kept the foreground simple because I might experiment with animating this scene (I’ve already added some wind to the palms). That’s not something I’ve worked with a lot with Vue but many folks have been asking about looping animations lately to use as meeting backgrounds.

The Fall Spectrum (Time of Day Series)

The entire 7 render “Fall Spectrum” time-of-day series is now available. I still need to work out how I want to fit these sorts of series in my gallery because they don’t exactly fit in the structure I have now. They should all be “gallery quality” but I obviously don’t need 7 of the same scene.

I also know that some folks prefer a steady stream of different subject matter, rather than my lingering in one scene for a week or more. Fear not! These are an interesting challenge but I really don’t want to do it for every, or even the majority, of my landscapes. Things would slow down quite a bit around here if I had to do seven single and seven multiscreen renders of every scene.

The only reason I am able to do these in a week rather than a month is that I now have Rochallor and Shadowfax rendering both concurrently.

Honestly, I also enjoy exploring new spaces so these scenes keep me rooted a bit more than I am used to. Bottom line: I will try to pick my battles wisely.

I knew it was going to be a major challenge to light the night version of this scene so I just decided to go all in and install some lights under the tree 😀

I’ve added a version without them in the Pickle Jar for the purists.

The mist rises as the sun goes down. Did I go overboard with the clouds?? The night one (next) might be the most difficult of the series…

The multiscreen version for this one is still rendering on Shadowfax (the mist is pretty expensive to render).
