The Comb (2020)

For the last week or so I’ve been learning how to use the modeler in Blender (starting with an excellent tutorial) and then how to import, texture and render those objects in VUE. It’s been a while since I’ve attempted an abstract so I decided to go with that theme.

My goal with Blender is to use it as I used Lightwave; to model geometry for my VUE scenes and use it to render abstracts, interiors and planetscapes.

Some folks may remember that I rendered some of my early Lightwave modeling practice using Bryce back in day before I dug into the native renderer. This particular scene was created using techniques similar to what I used for “The Comb” so I chose to re-visit that title as well 🙂

Next up…something for Christmas.

Reservoir (Spring)

I usually post my renders as I make them, but last week I decided to hold on to this scene and create a winter version first. The winter setting, with the reflective snow, worked better for a night version so I hope you enjoyed those. The original scene was set in the spring time, though, and now I will leave it to you to decide your preference.

Reservoir (Winter/Night)

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you celebrating today. We are about to enjoy our meal (just Jess and the kids this year) but I thought I would share this render first. It’s a night version of my new “Reservoir” winter scene that I rendered by request.

It’s been a crazy year but I think that makes it even more important to focus on the positive. I’m very thankful for my health, family, and for having a job I love which also makes people happy.

Yes, that means I’m thankful for you 🙂

I actually created this desert lake last week as a colorful springtime scene and had meant to post it on Friday. Looking at the calendar, however, I decided it might be more interesting to turn it into a winter scene and share that version first.
