Description
For my last project of 2023 I wanted to try something a little different with my landscapes rendering. Whereas I usually set my “camera” focal length to capture a wide angle here I wanted to set it to a narrow field of view. I feel it yields an interesting effect with reduced depth-of-field. At the very least it insures that my trees don’t exhibit barrel distortion when I render the scene for multiple monitors.
I do have a night version of this scene in the works and might attempt to revisit it in the springtime.

I used to live in Utah when I was a kid. Salt Lake City would get obliterated by fog in November and stay that way until like March, so if you wanted to see the sun, you’d go skiing. This reminds me so much of those days at Snowbird or Solitude where it was just unbelievably cold but the sun was out and the air was so crisp it went down your throat like spring water. Thank you again for all you do! You make my desktop and my day so much brighter!

Spot on, can’t say anything about this that bugs me and I’m pretty picky. Well done.

Oh, my. The low-level POV really makes me feel as though I’m IN the picture, while the valley and distant peaks remind me that it’s all part of one gorram big (and beautiful) landscape.
Please fell free to try this experiment again.

LOVE IT – feels like it’s related to my all-time favorite of yours, the “Highland” series. Excited for the night / spring / summer / whatever version you feel like putting up. Your mountain landscapes are fantastic – Happy New Year!

This is gorgeous, Ryan, and I do love the point of view. I was debating which scene to use in January, and this one is perfect.

Yes, that is an *excellent* way to end the year!
I like the field of view, combined with the cross-lighting on the trees.
Hope the right-most star is the highest value one :-O

Absolutely beautiful. Can’t wait for the night version, and a spring/summer version would be amazing too. I’ve been a lifetime member for many years now, and I have always enjoyed your work, especially the landscape renders you do. Happy New Year Ryan may you and yours be blessed in 2024.

My goodness this is beautiful! I can’t wait to see the night version, and I think that an evening version with the low setting sun would be breathtaking. I can envision the snow glistening with that soft light hitting it. Thank you, Ryan.

Superb. Also, major thanks for the narrow field of view. Makes the triple screen version feel much better.
Looking forward to seeing this for other seasons as/when you get chance. 🙂
