Description
After rendering many nebulae and other ethereal forms over the past week I felt the need to step back and create something relatively solid. The mountain was modeled using Gaea and the scene was rendered using VUE. I hope you enjoy the scene!
“Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away ere break of day
To seek the pale enchanted gold.”
~The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
Yes, I am invoking Tolkien with the title (though I sure some are hearing Led Zeppelin right now) 🙂

Very, VERY nice!
This, without reading the description, instantly made me think of LOTR and Skyrim.
Beautiful render! Been following you, Ryan, since 2001 or so, and it’s been a pleasure watching your skill progress over the years.

Again, the day, sunrise, and night versions of this would be ideal for an animated render showing the progression.

this looks great and now is my desktop as I play LOTRO for the last 12+ years

If you choose to do a night version, Ryan, beware: you won’t want any Smaug in your display.

I enjoy nearly every piece that you make, Ryan, but there are some that I just can’t stop looking at. This is one of them. I find myself looking at every little detail just to take it all in. Really beautiful!

I love J.R.R. Tolkien’s work, so this render holds special meaning for me, as I’m sure it does for many others.
Night version, please. 🙂

Im not particularly religious, but I appreciate this parable because it reminds me when we pause for a moment, we can appreciate the present: it takes a tremendous effort to reach the peakwe should enjoy it, even if only for a moment.
If we want to enjoy life, we must commit to being on the mountain. That doesnt mean we shouldnt planbut lets enjoy the planning process more. And it doesnt mean we shouldnt work hard, eitherbut we can enjoy the work when it is executed from a place of total awareness.
Dont dwell on the past.
Dont worry about the future.
Be on the mountain.
Just. Be.
