Description
I vividly remember back in 2001 showing one of Jessica’s friends my (then) recent “Ornament” render. She told me it looked nice but the ornament itself was “kinda plain”. For this update I used Plant Factory for the boughs AND to create the ornament itself. I used Lightwave to create a displacement texture for the ornament and that turned out to be the most time consuming part. I went through a LOT of different variations before I found one (a Flame Fractal) that I liked. Anyway I hope it looks more interesting now. It’s still kinda plain but a good wallpaper doesn’t need to be too flashy…

The original Ornament is a great favorite. I did not use this one last year, but this year I have it both on my monitor and my iPhone. Every time I open it up it makes me smile, elevates my whole psyche. Thanks, Ryan.

Both the original and this update really “get” the Christmas spirit. Being from New Mexico, our state motto is now “Red or Green” and we’re talking about Chile, but when you want to order both you simply ask for “Christmas.” Merry Belated Christmas!

I like the detail of the ornament. The ornament to your left should also show detail, not be obscured by the mini light bulb. Takes away the overall beauty of the render. The ornament below it should also show a bit of detail behind the mini light bulb.

Title says it all!

I love the ornament and the way the light plays off it. Makes me wonder how a blue or dark purple colored one would like now 🙂

Great way to wrap up 2018. Wonderful Christmas image.
Jenanne [liferplus]
Okay, me too — I’d love to see some additional colors to add to my holiday rotation.
Aslan [liferplus]
Pickle Jar wit different would also work – I too can see this is a deep purple or blue.
Have a great holiday.

Ryan, I have the old version of this one, but this version is so much nicer. The added detail to the ornament is awesome. Have a great holiday.

Ryan, during the holidays I change my desktop daily, and the original ornament was in my heavy rotation. This will surely join it there!
I love the idea of pickle jar versions with different color ornaments…I would love blue and purple!
Thanks for this one and all of the holiday papers.

This one is one of your most warm, inviting and lifelike pieces. It feels wonderful.
Thank you!

Such a nice revisit of the 2001 image and of the childhood memories of the New Year celebrations.

I came on today expecting to download an older image. I was surprised to see this one and immediately set it as my desktop. Thank you for the surprise!
Allen [liferplus]
Saw this come through via email and as soon as I got to my laptop I set it as my desktop background. Amazing work, Ryan. The detail in the foreground and the smooth blend from foreground to background makes this pop. Definitely raised my spirits and put me in a holiday mood.

This looks so real, I’m truly amazed!
This just bumped up my Christmas Cheer Ryan!!
This gets a total 10 from me…
Gene [lifer]
Simple, elegant and flawlessly executed — I have no reservations about hitting “10” on this one! Well done Ryan! Nobody can have an excuse for not being in the spirit of the season if they’ve seen this work of art. Merry Christmas!!!

Love this puts me in Xmas mood
Susan [lifer]
I love it. But honestly, I’m downloading the 2001 version too. I totally disagree that the ornament is plain. Both versions are simple and elegant in different ways.

Any chance of a tri-screen render?

Gorgeous Ryan!
another masterpiece You should do a pickle jar of this maybe with a different color ornament blue and maybe Green?

You constantly amaze!

I like it. Wouldn’t mind seeing it in other colors.
Al [liferplus]
I love this! Very nicely done. The tree and ornament look very realistic and I’m sure that people will wonder where they could get the actual ornament. Can’t wait for the dual screen render! Kudos, friend!
BobC [lifer]
I love the image. The complex texture and rich color of the ornament contrast nicely with the relatively simple background, making for a perfect composition. Nicely done.
Todd [basicmember]
This is beautiful. You’ve captured so much dimension between foreground and background. Not to mention the vivid ornament detail, in contrast with the softness of the lights. Another beautiful piece of art.

I love your Christmas scenes and am always happy to see more.

I have been following your work since 2003, and it has been my go to desktop wallpaper.
Love this reimagining of an original piece!
Mark A. [liferplus]
I never get tired of Christmas wallpaper.
Isaac [nonmonthly]
I like the balance in this one, it’s plain enough to be a nice non-distracting Christmas scene, but it’s cool enough to justify as a background. Definitely adding this to my Christmas rotation. And the more I look at it the more things jump (or don’t jump) out at me. The needles look really great and so does the lighting.
Littlemom [liferplus]
For the most part I like the update to this wallpaper. The tree looks very realistic, and love the snowy background as well. The one part I don’t care for is the ornament itself and the fractal look you have on it, but again that is just me. Overall great job it will be going in my DB Christmas rotation 🙂
Brandi U. [liferplus]
I love this. Seriously perfect.
Hoss6884 [liferplus]
This is one of my favorite originals and have been hoping for a new version. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Jenanne [liferplus]
Awesome, Ryan! I was just looking over some of your older Christmas renders and thinking how great it would be to revisit some of them. You read my mind. Thank you for your wonderful work, and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Love the detail and lighting with this render, thank you Ryan
