Rock On!! Love it

Impression of a painting.

I really like the simplicity of this one – it is like a snapshot you wish you could take of a moment in time where you feel like you’re in a strange, yet serene place, and just the innate wonder of the moment fills you.
Garrett
Love it! Can’t wait for the 3840 x 1080 version.

A perfect wallpaper for my iPad Air! I love your images on their own, but it’s very cool when they integrate well with my desktop stuff…many thanks!
David Smit
Please make a wider/multi-screen version of this!
Rankin
This is a nice piece. I like the effects of the mist and the red sun blending into it. Reminds me of a chilly image out of a novel. All in all, its going on my computer.
AV.Romann
My first response was “very nice”… After looking at it a few minutes longer, I felt the smokes actually jutted against the water, rather than blended with any resonance.
I really like the impressionist/painting-style effect of the lighting on the clouds; it’s an effect I don’t recall seeing in (m)any other images and is worthy of further exploration. It’s unfortunate the water looks so “digital” by contrast.
Re-reading what I wrote, I realise that’s probably a complete over-analysis, given the “Doodle” status; more pickle-jar variations on this one please! I’m thinking emerald green, laser purple and maybe muddy brown?

@James – UltraMon. That should solve your W7 dilema

Oustanding!

Oops, also meant to add that sometimes the simplicity of an image like this is all I want on my desktop. It’s nice to have something like this in the mix to choose from.
Deanna
This is beautiful in it’s simplicity. Love the colors and the shimmer on the water, including the Deep Purple inspiration!
Kristen
This reminds me of Bioshock Infinite, when Columbia lights up the sky above the lighthouse.

This strongly resembles Turner’s work. Check out the following link:

I’m a huge Turner fan and love the potential of this piece. Don’t let me down Mr. Bliss.

Boy, this really took me back!! Love it! I watched the video with my 13-year-old son, who observed that nobody was moving in the audience…I told him they were probably too stoned for a mosh pit! lol! Great tunes, great work…I can image Frank Zappa and the Mothers standing on the shore watching it burn… 😉 Thanks for the fun Ryan!
kentron
I was hoping you were working on a Halloween image 🙁 Will we get one this year? I’m hoping for something nice and spooky

I Love It. For what looks like a relatively simple rendering, it has serious mood! Very cool. Kinda reminds me of the “Seastorm 3D Screensaver”.
Eric
Looks great. Reminds me of the fog off the Channel Islands (near LA) towards sunset.
Chris
Kind of too simple. I totally understand it was a side project but it could use a bit more to look at. Maybe a ship rising out of the smoke would be nice.
Jenanne
Perhaps the smoke on the water is coming from the fire in the sky? 😉 This is great, particularly for a little doodle. The water is grainy especially at the bottom but overall this works very nicely. I don’t think the source of the smoke is needed.
Kana
Beautiful! I would love to see how this “doodle” shapes up on Bucephalus as a more detailed render. I love this as a doodle, but nit-picky stuff the “smoke” is too solid where it meets the water, and like others, I would like to see maybe a hint of a source, like a bonfire, or maybe a pirate ship going down? Meteor? 🙂
Looking forward to seeing the next stuff you post!
Chris
it’s beautiful and beautifully simple … like a painting … LOVE it!
Jonathan
I like it, but I would like seeing some of the source of the smoke more. Some form of bonfire for instance.
Wolfe
I always enjoy ones like this…
But I don’t understand why people expect perfect realism in a work not done on a serious machine (sorry Simon). Personally, I can’t expect that from any rendered image… they’re not photos…
Keep up the good work Ryan!
Simon
People have commented on this problem with other images, but there’s a hell of a lot of grain in this image, on the surface of the water, which really kills the realism. Is this just an unfortunate side-effect of the software/rendering?
Gumboot
I can see it… barely… through the smoke. The outline of a burning hotel on a distant shore……. V2??
betsey
perfection!!!!!
Topher
You need about 8 machines, so you can always create while the others labor.

Thanks for sharing your doodles. They’re fun. I like the colors on this one.

“…We knew we’d never forget/ Smoke on the water/ A fire in the sky” Love it. Would love to see some of the building burning.
Of course, this is DB, so if you wanted to make the fire in the sky come from a giant flaming meteorite, that would be cool, too.
I do have to second Kentron, though. I was also hoping to see a Halloween image.

Knowing the decade this song came out, I think of something else when I hear “Smoke on the Water.”
@ jmpond – I happen to have that screensaver along with the electricalm 3d one. I haven’t used them in a while though. I have my laptop go through the DB wallpapers for the screensaver and use one of the Windows 7 defaults on my desktop since I have 3 monitors. I used the wallpapers on it too if I could get it to span all the monitors.
